Quick Introduction

Just joined the forum and thought I'd introduce myself.

I live in Bangor in Northern Ireland, I currently have 3 permissions in the local area, I have a Diana/Original .22 side lever air rifle and a new ISSC SPA .22 LR.

I am currently in negotiations with a chap who makes NV "bolt-on" equipment and sells on ebay. One of my permissions has a couple of foxes she wants me to discourage - so I'm looking forward to receiving the night gear so that I can rid the farm of these pests.

OK .... seems he had only one to sell!

I'm a complete newcomer to "night fighting" and am therefore completely at sea when it comes to what gear to have or use.

I spoke to a local chap (County Fermanagh) who had bought one of these systems and was very pleased with it - in fact he shot two foxes first time out.

Would you mind answering a few questions for me?

IR light to me means infra-red and therefore needs a special viewing adaptor to see what they illuminate. I think in the dim and distant past it was called "black light". Most of the IR lamps for sale seem to be green - do these need a special adaptor or can one see what they illuminate through an ordinary scope?

It seems to me that most of the so called night scopes are of military grade - ie very robust but very heavy and a limited fixed magnification, typically 2.5 or thereabouts.

Any guidance you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Hi JJ, personally mate, if you want to buy night vision ready to go instead of building your own, I would just contact Dave ("Some bloke", replied to this thread) or Mark (Marky610) . Both make and sell ready to go nv and ir illuminators and both will give you unbiased opinions. For just an illuminator there's also Ian (Sika Stag)

More importantly, neither will rip you off which can't be said for some of the ebay suppliers.

Once you've absorbed Bruce's post and now have a basic grasp of NV, have a read through the DIY section.......there are some very simple builds, that give excellent results, and without spending a lot of dosh....
or have a look at some of the commercially available products that are on the market at the minute......again you don't have to spend massive amounts.....

just depends what sort of range you intend to shoot?

there are plenty of helpful and knowledgeable guy's on here, that are always willing to help.......so don't be afraid to ask
