The point I was making is that MP's etc keep saying we don't need armed police for everyday duty in London etc. Then, the first time since Guy Fawkes they're threatened and they're DEMANDING armed police protect THEM in London. Ain't they brave

The local police here used to look like English bobbies and behaved as such.
Then the started to carry guns and act like American police and its been down hill ever since.
The last of the decent police were the NF constabulary. ( who did not carry guns )
I respect a man that with a cool head who solves a problem before it needs to turn violent.
If we can not as a society find a way to talk out our issues rather than use force to impose our values then we are what the terrorists try and paint us.

The only effective armed response to random terrorists is the unorganised militia - citizens carrying guns for their own protection. That of course means living with the risks inherent in arming the below average IQ and people with poor self restraint as well as the smart and self controlled.
Western police forces and citizen armies have managed to train and employ many of those problematic people without mass murder being a regular problem, so I don't see that as insurmountable. The issue is one of poltical will. Those who wish to rule over us and micromanage our lives have a pathological aversion to allowing the means to resist them.
That said, London has been subject to terrorist attacks for a long time. The seige of Sydney St in 1910, the Battle of Cable St in 1936, a 150 year long bombing campaign by the Fienians and IRA. The Blitz. London is still there.

My only observation is that the cool calm and quite days of the "Jack Hargreaves era and his way of life " are long gone for ever ?

Wow F/Beaver you haven't been keeping up to date this past number of years on terrorist activity in the UK, when you make a silly remark about

The UK needs more straight talking policymakers /craizies as you referred to them/ in power to keep the Great British society in tact for the British

you know, i have gotten used to being on the internet, and outside of the USA i have learned to laugh it off, when i get the usual:

i dont take issue with it, i am used toit... but, honestly? couple things in play with your viewpoint:

1) you live in, for lack of a batter word? a pretty socialistic setup, as compared to me here in the states.
2) you only "See" news stories, which gives you a skewed view.
3) you government and TV people? are always brainwashing you, to make fun of yanks.
