Hi from down under.
Hi all,
Been looking at a few night vision set ups for my rifles on YouTube, DIY and ready to go set ups, and will have a go at making up my own, but as much as it looks like fun and not to hard it is always great to do some more research, did a Google search and ended up here.

Hi and welcome aboard, Google brought you to the right spot.
Read and read as much as you can, diy section is a good start.
What ranges are you shooting fella?
Most of us started with add on systems, easy to do and can be dirt cheap.

Welcome from another Aussie.
I'm going down a similar path, awaiting my bits and pieces to arrive for an "add on" I'm going to build for my new bunny buster, an HW100T with Hawke Airmax 30 SF 6x24x50.

Have been reading lots of stuff online, watched just about every single video on YouTube, and have ordered some gear from China for a DIY add on setup, but will have to be patient due to the Chinese new year.
I own and shoot two 22LR bolt rifles, so anywhere from 100mtrs down is what I shoot at. The area I live and hunt in is the Australian Victorian high country, the bush is very heavy/thick, and would really have sight too about 50mtrs at most times. I have also ordered a Marlin BL 30/30 as we have deer, pigs, goats and kangaroos around, and most come out at night time, hence the NV need! There are lots of rabbits and foxes as well. I used to hunt with compounds, and still do at times, but I am getting close to the big 50, so rifles make things easier

22lr with 6x24x42 SF is what I use, and was going to buy the NiteSite Viper, but seeing it is around $1000 AUD and is limited in what it can do, doing a DIY add on seems to way to go, its more cost effective and fun to do your own gear, and if something breaks at least I have some idea how to fix it.

My usual rifle is a 22lr CZ452 classic with a Leupers scope, but I shoot some fairly small acreages at the moment so am going to the dark side with a Weirauch in 22 fac, seen one in action with the add on gear and very impressed. Plus a bit more neighbour friendly.
Into my third week of waiting for my fac addition, bloody WAPOL are a pain in the butt !
Very jealous of where and what you shoot !

I moved from Melbourne about 15 months ago to the country, was lucky to retire in my mid 40's. It takes all of 20 minutes via country roads and I am in state forest (in VIC we can hunt in state forest) and the area is massive, the dirt tracks are strictly 4x4 tracks, so bugger all sheeples around if any! I only got into firearms about 2 months ago, sure we have to fill in a bit of paperwork, and wait for the PTA to come in, but all up very simple to get a shooters license, as compared to other states. I own two 22lr now, thought about a air rifle, but I can shoot cb shorts in my single shot rifle, and you can hear them. I am waiting for my other PTA to come in as my Marlin BL 30/30 is ready for collection at my local shop, can't wait!
Here in the Victorian high country we have a huge problem with deer, there are way too many of them, lots of kangaroos, pigs and goats, and yeah millions of rabbits, but as you know most tend to come out when its dark, and its why I got into NV, I am sure my DIY setup will work just fine as there is just so much info online, I am also thinking about making my own head mounted NV setup, but 1 step at the time with the rifle add on.

THX some bloke! Beer's are in the fridge, or would you prefer a bourbon? It's 24c and sunny outside, and I am having a BBQ later, plenty of kangaroo steaks.some bloke wrote:Welcome to you guys from down under - pour out some amber nectar and fluff up a cushion or two.
