just got in......

Post by 22-250jock » 05 Dec 2014, 23:06

well, just got in,.......

been out for 3 1/2 hours........full moon.......2 degrees........didn't think we stood any chance of getting anything....

BUT.......

it was definitely worth it.....

the boy finally got his first fox......yes!!! :D

half way round we pulled into one of our favourite fields, if we were going to see anything it was going to be here...had only got 30yrds through the gate and spotted a big old dog fox in the middle of the field with the thermal. had his head down mousing and seemed oblivious to the noise of the polaris.....
got to within 150yrds of him, passed the rifle to the boy.........

give him his due, he kept calm and waited for it to turn broadside...... bang....thwak...and down he went

think i was more nervous watching through the thermal, than him taking the shot,

Image

needless to say, he's got a great big silly grin on his face..........cheeky bugger's even nicked my bit of brass as a keep sake

cheers jock

you're right there Tony........have to admit he's done well over the last 18 mths, progressing from the .22 to the .17 fireball, and more recently shooting bunnies at 200yrds plus with the 22-250, getting used to the recoil

felt confident letting him take the shot and pleasantly surprised how he didn't get flustered..............he did get the shakes once we picked it

cheers john

Nice one John and nice shooting by your lad

I was out last night too, spotted a fox crossing the field I was expecting it to but it was too far out and seemed overly spooked. I didn't try stopping it as it was on the limit and didn't want to try calling it not to make it more uneasy. I just assumed it felt uneasy about my truck being parked up and with the bright moon it was in full view.
Long story short there was the first fox of the winter in the trap this morning and the traps in the same field I saw the fox. Don't 'think' its the same one so I've got a camera out tonight but it's always good to trap the first fox of the season. I'd only set the traps about 4 days ago, They're great, they're working when I'm in bed
