Went out Friday, nice night and dry but nothing about. Four rabbits popped into view in total but my shooting buddy still hasn't got the hang of stalking, soon as you point to an area he starts waving a red lamp about If I've told him once I've told him a dozen times to use the spotter but no, he has to light everything up like a Christmas tree. One of these days I'm going to butt thump him on the back of the head, see if that makes it sink in

Gaffer tape solves everything.
Explain that if he is that slow, he needs a big tail light and offer to insert it and tape it into place. Then tape the spotter to both hands. If he complains it can also be used to shut him up!

I think the big problem is that he's primarily a shotgun man, see it ........... bring gun up ......... bang, if you miss you miss. He seems to think night shooting's the same.

We were out a few weeks ago and I spotted a deer down in the valley amongst the scrub. Couldn't make out exactly what type of deer due to bushes / trees etc (probably muntie but it was a big one if it was). After about 10 / 15 minutes he eventually got it in view on the spotter . His first words were "SHOOT IT, SHOOT IT,SHOOT IT,". I said how, and why, I've got a .22lr in my hands, it's the middle of the night, I can't see it clearly, it's probably 150 yards away and we don't even know what type of deer it is ???? All he said was "well I'd have shot it"

Uh.. yeah. He may be your mate, but he seems to be lacking common sense, or simply unable to learn new tricks. I do understand Buck Fever, but part of being an adult & a hunter is considering safety and humane dispatch.

I had a shooting mate like that a few years ago Rod.
No matter what I said about being quiet and keeping as still as possible he would do just the opposite, pacing around with an NV spotter I gave him, getting in and out of the truck for no need, chain smoking when each cig took about 10 clicks of his lighter and then when he spotted something he'd announce it to everyone within a miles radius.
He is also the same bloke that managed to fall over on a steep bank and roll to the bottom screaming all the way and the same bloke that ran off in the pitch black to retrieve a rabbit I'd shot, not realising there was a ditch between him and his goal, more screams and a big splash on that one.

Spotted a fox a few weeks ago so gave him the spotter while I looked through the scope (no round chambered). I got the fox coming towards us when it suddenly stopped and paced up and down a while Next thing is the fox turned and legged it I turned to whisper to my mate and he's gone I looked around and spotted him behind me a few paces, standing on a low wall on top of the hill .............. skylined to perfection

I don't know why he does it, he's not thick, just seems to do things without thinking
