Best place for tap and die?

Post by THE GRIFF » 14 Sep 2014, 21:23

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a whitworth tap and die set, looking for a kit with small sizes preferably 1mm-5mm or would consider buying them individually.

Harlem without a doubt ;-)

But seriously, you can find a lot of that stuff very cheap at Auto Jumbles. Otherwise I think eBay is the place for everything today !?

I thought they only went down to about 1/4 then BA took over, apparently though they do go smaller.

Hello all.
In this day and age to have a good choise of screw or bolt types of head shapes, e.g. allen head, cheese head slot, phillips, pozi drive, hexagon, etc. etc. etc. metric is probably the only way to go. Also you should bare in mind these days that the availability of the right size tapping drill is a lot easier when you go metric now. If you realy want to look for a semi obselete thread type you can still get 1/8th and 3/16ths whitworth at a push, you can also get small BSF, UNF, UNC, also cycle thread, watch makers thread if you really search quite hard etc etc etc. Can I ask what are you altering or building. Tell me exactly what you what to do, I have small allen bolt of different sizes and length in black oxide also quite a lot marine stainless etc. Thanks Phil
