No way would i sit for hour after hour without a bite. Although by no stretch of the imagination can i be called a match or even a decent angler, i just go with a friend for "pleasure and a laugh". I or more precise we (the two of us) can make a pint of maggots last for several days fishing.

I used to go lake fishing but now that i live next to the sea i mostly go spinning for Bass, Mackerel and Pollock during the summer months, the rest of the time I set up a couple of rods with either grip leads and large baits going for Cod and larger species cast as far out as i can or beaded Plaice rigs in close hunting for flatfish.
I also go out on the charter boats but that is quite expensive so i dont do it so often, there are some great fish to be caught when you do though.
Lake fishing is ok but i find that sea fishing is much more fun as you never know what you will catch!

Living on the coast, I've been sea angling from the age of seven, so, almost fifty years. I've fished lots of venues in the UK, both pleasure and match, from south west Scotland to Anglesey and from Poole to Aberdeen.
Fished The Gambia six times and all around the med too.
Had brief forays into coarse angling for pike, carp and barbel, but fishing for silverfish never really did it for me.
Tried fly fishing in the mid nineties and loved it, both river and lake. Went on to become a Game Angling Instructor and I've been lucky enough to fish for bonefish in Cuba and striped bass and bluefish on Cape Cod, sea trout on the Wear and grayling down in The West Country.
I'd never part with my gear, especially all of the flyfishing stuff, but I'm afraid that it all had to be put on hold as I found that I was spreading myself too thinly between that and the shooting. The shooting won.
Still have days when I see the water conditions and fancy a go at a local beach, or simply wake up and think 'what a great day to go after some rising brown trout'. If it's in your blood, it never leaves you.

I try to get out Pike fishing a few times through the winter. I have all the gear for Carp too but haven't been for a couple of years. Had a go at Barbel fishing too. Been out on boats sea fishing & fishing in the Humber from the shore some years ago.

Not so many years ago I used to spend a lot of time fishing, every Saturday and possibly the odd evening, in all weathers.
Then I moved (thank you bitch
) now I just don't seem to have the time to commit a whole day so shooting wins as I can just go for a few hours as and when I please.
I still dabble occasionally and will be having my second attempt, since I was a kid abroad, at sea fishing in two weeks time up in The Borders, last time in June I caught about six mackerel which when you take into account the stuff I bought cost me about twenty quid each

Anyways lads my day was dire to say the least.... Lets just say the next time i go fishing I'll be organising it!
If your interested look up my brothers shop Weymouth Angling and they can book the trip for you for no extra charge, i highly reccomend staying at the Sailors Return, its quite cheap, right next to the harbourside and the boats and even do breakfast and packed lunches for the fishermen staying there!
