I post and receive far too many things each year (without ever losing even a single parcel in my entire lifetime) to think the system doesn't work. I appreciate things do go missing within RM but your example certainly isnt typical.
If you have lost so much stuff that you cannot trust RM regular delivery methods then I think you should open an enquiry with them, its not normal for this to happen, if it was then RM would go out of business. I dread to think the number of things I have purchased this year alone, 90% of them with regular 1st class postage from a whole host of different sellers - not one single package hasn't arrived.
Cheers Alan, I've felt all along that the real issue is postie leaving the packages without getting a signature - and that it's dodgy buyers taking the pee when postie didn't get a signature - but one can't really make that accusation when a buyer says he didn't get it. Tracking the item only gets a 'we have your package yada yada... but there is never any update and the system doesn't record it's progress to find the failure point. As far as they are concerned it's lost rather than effectively stolen buy the buyer.
Your experience backs that up somewhat. I can honestly say that I too have always had post delivered - but a signed for delivery often gets left round the back.
Either way muggins lost the item then had to replace it - and pay extra post on top too. I'm not willing to keep getting sucker punched like that.
RMSD lets RM find it was the delivery driver at fault if he failed to get a signature - so he HAS to do it right. It costs an extra £2+ over signed for - but I have never had that type of delivery go awol. I sometimes feel it makes me look like a grabbing git though.
