Photon for a new boy.
Photon for a new boy.
Hello Guys.
After lurking in the long grass for a few weeks I thought its time to say hello,so hello.
I have been reading up on nightvision,in particular the Photon.
Anyway,I have gorn n dunnit. Ordered today for delivery in september or possibly october.
Its for use on my FAC Airwolf.
Is anyone already using one on an Airwolf?
I need to know what mounts to get and fancy QD, any suggestions.
What IR should I get as have not ordered one yet?
Should I get a battery pack?
What about the mini recorder jobbie?
That should do for now, lots to think about and pennies to save up.
Bryan.

Re: Photon for a new boy.
Firstly welcome to the forum Bryan.
Marks the only one with one and fac airrilfe on here, I think the t20 is going to be the illuminator of choice for the time being. It should be plenty for airgun range.
Enjoy the forum mate.

Re: Photon for a new boy.
Hi Bryan, can't help on the airwolf but velkom to zee forum.
The Photon comes with a 3.5mm mini jact plug lead to a phono connector so almost all DVRs should be usable, both of mine are.
I too use an FAC air rifle and a Photon, It only needs a lil smidgin of IR mate:

Hello Mr Bloke.
Thank you for the welcome and the info.
I would be very interested in learning more about the DVRs as not keen to just get the Scott Country one without at least looking at the alternatives.
Also could you perhaps offer IR illuminator for FAC air that would also be usable on HMR OR 6.5X55 CENTREFIRE.
Obviously I am not in rush as I only ordered the Photon yesterday 23/08/2013.
Bryan.

BRYAN3:
Marky610 is one of the geniuses on this forum. He has designed a large number of IR illuminators and had a batch of T20 torches modified to IR that he was selling. All gone as of Yesterday. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3678
His Youtube channel is http://www.youtube.com/user/Marky610
There are vids of the Photon and of the Photon with his T20 mod.
Member Sikastag makes many of Mark's designs for sale to forum members, try contacting him through the forum, he may be able to mod a T20 for you. Or sell you the LED & Driver, you would need to buy the torch & mod it yourself.

Re: Photon for a new boy.
Hi Bryan, I only make/convert drop-in components for IR illuminators and visible red lamping torches for air and rimfire ranges, and buy in lenses and 501B torch hosts. The Photon will see 300 yards with quite modest amounts of IR - as you can see in my video here, but I'd agree that centrefire ranges, especially if a doubler is going to be used, could warrant a larger zoomable illuminator;

I think the DVR bit has been covered.
Sikastag (Ian) was asked to become the builder of the bad boy IR illuminator designs when Marky got too far behind on orders and needed help, his contact email is: ir.light.builds@gmail.com

Re: Photon for a new boy.
sorry to play the pedant chaps, but someone new to the forum and n.v in general needs correct info
(oooh that makes me sound like a git lol)
radagast, ian (sika stag) sells made up pills ready converted to drop in a t20
dave, "bad boy" refers to georges t20 conversion, just about the brightest thing we've produced to date.

Re: Photon for a new boy.
I meant big illuminators in general were bad boy ones, and that Ian was making them now. The thread went towards the T 20 for a bit then something for a 6.5 centrefire so I figured the T 20 would probably not fit that requisite. Darn this dyslexia business
Ouch - was wong again then.
As I seem remember it:
Mark asked on open forum for help with his builds and Ian offered, then Mark asked about his skill set - and later advised the membership that Ian was on-board so deliveries would be speeded up.
Mark subsequently put up a link in his signature to the effect that Ian was the chap to contact for the illuminators Marky had designed?
