Haven't tried them myself so I don't know about the quality.

Re: mini dvr
What make / model of DVR is it that has a broken screen please?
And do you mean that the display is physically damaged, or that the DVR unit just doesn't switch on now?

Re: mini dvr
Ha! My MINI DVR just stopped working this morning!
My fault... I plugged the supplied cable for AV/OUT to the AV/IN. Weird connections!
Now won't switch on. Well pissed off now!
I did smell a bit of burning on the PCB. Opened it out to see if there was a small glass fuse somewhere that I could replace but can't see any.
The annoying thing is that I had to wire the AV/OUT from my NV specifically for this DVR. Now, if I am getting another model, I have to redo the bloody wiring.

Re: mini dvr
A lot of the mini DVR's come with a dedicated camera that is fed 5v through the AV in cable. At a guess your AV out cable has a different configuration which frazzled the DVR for you.

It is bad engineering though! they only needed to make one of the socket in different size or putting a warning on the cable, or adding a reference note in the user instructions...
I now need to replace it, but what with? One the same or a different one?
