Hi, first I’d like to thank Geoff for accepting me into the body of the Kirk.
I do a lot of fox shooting, wether it be lying out at dusk or lamping. Most of the ground is hill with the odd low down small fields.
I’m looking at my first foray into NV and I’d prefer to go the add on route. I’ve read lots on here and my head is scrambled ! Do I stick with the front add on like the digi stalker or do I change and go with a pard 008 or the wraith 4K and save a bit of cash ?

Any help would be fantastic.
Thank you

A big welcome to the forum  , think it all depends on your needs , the pard 008lr is a great all rounder and can be used as an excellent day scope, and the rangefinder will be invaluable in the hills etc, but if you want to keep high end glass on the rifle then front add ons are the way to go as rear add ons prefer cheaper glass with less coatings and side Parallax and low base mag 4x etc , but now you have a wide choice, and not to forget the Drone Pro if you can pick one up , but adds a bit more weight than the 008 HTH

If you want to stick with add-ons rather than dedicated NV scopes, you choice of front add-ons is essentially limited to the Digstalker or Pulsar F455.
Nothing to choose between them performance wise, and they will work with any scope (with the correct size adaptor to fit onto your scope.
The image you'll see with them degrades as you increase scope magnification, so don't expect to be able to identify targets at anything higher than about x8
I had a Digistalker, but wasn't impressed by the image quality compared to a PARD 008, but my pal who bought it from me loves it because he can use it on multiple rifles and he really likes the fact that it does not compromise how he mounts and holds his rifles
There are many more rear add-ons available, but the PARD 007 is the go to model for most people and since its price has just been reduced from £432 to £332, it's really a no brainer.
However, rear add-ons are scope fussy, and you need a scope with either front or side focus down to 20 yards or less to be able to get a sharp image when using IR
Also, using a rear add-on with a high base magnification scope (6-4 or 8-32) won't be a fun experience because the field of view will be so narrow, you'll probably never find your target before it runs away.
As I alluded to, the extra length of a rear add-on behind the scope does affect how you mount and hold the rifle.
Some people get used to it and work around it, others not so much

Cheers

Thank you Blueeyes and Phoenix.
I would like to keep my scope on the rifle for sure and a rear mount doesn’t appeal to me as I’d need to make a few adjustments to compensate for it. This leaves the question of which one between the digi stalker and the pulsar. Which would you go for ?
I see there might be a bit of a wait for the stalker. Have you any idea what the after sales service is like ?
Thanks again.

As I said, I did have a Digistalker, but I've never used or looked through an F455.
However the performance is very similar
I would not expect any after sales service issues with either add-on.
The Digistalker is built like a tank !!
The Pulsar has a few more bells and whistles such as an included 940nm IR illuminator, wifi and onboard recording
Against that, the Pulsar uses a proprietary battery system and spare batteries cost around £80
The Digistalker uses 2x CR123 lithium batteries (either rechargeable or non rechargeable) with good quality rechargeables costing £4 each
Remember that for either add-on, you'll need a scope adaptor to fit the objective bell of your day scope.
The Pulsar adaptor costs around £110, the Digistalker price includes an adaptor
If you are interested in the Pulsar, I suggest you contact Ian Blackwood at Blackwood Outdoors for a price - I see from his website that he has them in stock.

Cheers
