When you see a dead, fat Yankee wash up on your shores with a valved mask, then you can pick on/at me.

I don't even know how to clear a valveless mask. That little bit of water in the nose drives me crazy. But somehow, I can handle goggles with no nose.

(A), get a mask that fits.
(B) Place hand flat across top of mask and gently exhale through nose to blow all water out.

or dive like a girl and use a valve

All well and good, but when the valve fails and your in a sticky situation you'll not know how to drill it.

Valves from experience don't last that long in salt water.

^^^ This ^^^. And it will fail

Just practice clearing your mask, not only may it save your life but it will give you more choice of masks.

I went to a local dive shop. I ordered a pair of Aqua Glide Deep Sea fins. These were the only thing the shop had that fit my size (US) 14 Yeti feet. I ended up getting a pair of 2mm short socks. Boots were out of the question. Nothing was available that fit me, let alone a fin that would accept a size 14 boot. I paid about $20 more than Amazon prices. I guess Im happy with the purchase, as I know they fit.

To be honest that's the way to do it. You'll be in a possibly dangerous environment with a very limited life span if anything goes wrong. Don't waste money but don't skimp on equipment. It needs to fit perfectly and it needs to do it's job without fail.

How are strapped fins supposed to fit? How far is your foot supposed to slide into the pocket? The largest pair I tried on, my heel hung out past the bottom of the fin. Is this the way it's supposed to be? I just happened that this set was the biggest the shop had.

If I remember correctly about 3 or 4 inches of heel sticks out, or maybe 2 or 3. If they're secure and comfortable then all is well. You need enough strap in the loop around your ankle to be able to push it off with fingers, so 2 or 3 inches of foot sticking out is about right I would think.

I can (with a little squeeze) get my toes and ball of my foot into the pocket. I'm certainly not getting far enough in that my toes are hanging out the vent. Does this sound right to you?
