Re: Stihl Chainsaws
Hi Radagast, your having me on - Jimi Hendrix never owned a chainsaw - did he?. Saw your YT link - sort of ritualised voodoo offering. I bet that guitar would be worth a bit now. Anyway you just reminded me of the time i was North of Perth out in the bushy bits. Came across a man made water hole and had a wander about through the scrubby stuff. Those bleddy lizards know no fear. Anyway I came across this tiny little camp fire with four legs sticking out of it. Kangaroo or Wallaby can't remember now, laid symmetrically on the now dead fire, furry feet out, burnt joints in the middle - nothing else left. I believe they were placed North, South, East and West. How spooky is that tell me.

pickle wrote:Ok rodp, at risk of offending you, the rest of the world and my wife I have indeed heard of Jimi Hendrix, I just never listened to his music. I'll have to have a go! Very bad tinnitus and attention span. Now, Madelaine Bell, Whitney Houston almost pitch perfect - sheer velvet and the most attractive of ladies - whoa (to name but a few).
Got to be honest .................. I think it's c**p as well
Now ladies in lavender sound track by Joshua Bell

Re: Stihl Chainsaws
Well rodp. you old romantic. Have actually seen ladies in lavender but did not remember the music. Lovely score, reminded me a bit of Myra Hess, Jesu Joy of Mans Desiring i think. Anyway my chainsaw ran for a bit and the oil pump worked (alleluia) with thin oil and then the little Kraut git stopped again. Changed carbs and plugs to no avail.

You only have 2 really good choices regarding your Stihl 025.You either do a Jimi Hendrix and invest your hard earned pennies in 2 cans of Lighter Fuel and then proceed to learn all the lyrics to "Voodoo Child" in readiness for a ceremonial barbecuing of your 025 which should then take place at a hour before sun-up on any day of any month that has a "Y" in it's spelling, or you get up extra early and make track to your local car boot venue and search out a good sized "sledge hammer" at a bargain price and then prepare yourself for a good work out by jogging on the spot while learning the chorus words to "We've been working on the chain gang" then pause for some deep breathing exercise and then drag your 025 out of the wood shed at 9am on the 2nd Sunday morning of any month that has a "R" in it's title and purposely proceed to beat your 025 into ever decreasing smaller pieces until it is beyond any hope of any repair possibilities/maintenance schedule .
Find a sleeping "Stihl 026 or a Husky 55" you will not look back
Seriousthis is a short cut to happiness for you

I love this country; it's the damn government I'm afraid of!
Re: Stihl Chainsaws
Well nealh it has come to pass that men of Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Yorkshire are people of few sentiments and indeed are from a different tribal culture. Men and women of the south (Watford Gap) fought the Romans and were made garrulous in servitude, and men of the North fought trees and Picts and Scots and also a few Romans and were exiled beyond a great wall and became men of few words. Then came the chain saw and all men were then made equal in the face of adversity. And the ancestors of these woods-people moved to the new world and took their craft with them. German settlers (gifted and skilled interlopers who new a good thing) made firearms and English settlers found Tobacco and grew Maize. Giant Redwoods laughed at these invaders safe in the knowledge that mankind would have to navigate around them for ever. And by and by European mankind made war upon the trees and traded beads with indigenous peoples and made war upon them too. And there we have it - i don't smoke anything but I do like fish. Far as I know the Germans are Stihl there in the New World order.

Re: Stihl Chainsaws
Another matter that you should bare in mind
when you have a situation where you as the proud owner
Your 2 stroke chainsaw engine is a living and breathing lump of 20th century metal and plastic that would have been designed by computer and assembled by robots and finally placed in the hands of mere mortals who it turn should be suitably proficient and skilled to be able to nurture and coax and titivate 2 stroke engines with huge amounts of care and TLC in order to expect the slightest bit of cooperation and usefulness out of the said tree and wood cutting machinery that we collectively call "chainsaws"
I fear that your first error "of boldly going where a more temperate individual might have paused and thought
If I were in your shoes ? I would return to the outlet that sold you your troublesome and temperamental 025 and quote the well known merchandising loop-hole phrase that are encapsulated in the terms and conditions clauses of our "Consumer Goods Act" that are worded to the effect that "THIS BLOODY CHAINSAW IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE ??? and cannot be successfully used and repaired and periodically serviced by your good self ???
Tell the sales outlet that you are a professional "TREE DOCTOR" which I believe will give you a large amount of "BARGAINING POWER" when the sales outlet realise the error of selling a non professional chainsaw to a wood chopping enthusiast such as yourself ???
If you feel that you might get a bit emotional about setting fire to ? or beating your chainsaw ? into small pieces I would offer you £7.50 and a prepaid Hermes Parcel Label to SA15 and take a chance that you might have overlooked a minor defect/fault that the Germans have engineered into your homeowners 025.
Kindest regards
Will edit latter got double vision now

Re: Stihl Chainsaws
And so it came to pass that the much maligned little 025 started as if by magic (in the rain). There was also a renowned great Northern Arborist who mentioned in passing that the little Stihl was renowned for being 'carb fussy'. These words of wisdom prevailed and eventually, lo the little chainsaw was rendered great again among giants, by the actions of a fool.
Blimey Phil, don't know whats happened here, two carbs, three plugs and a bit of old cake from Gamlingay - had to scrape off the icing - yuck. Kind of you to offer but I'm not even sure where it came from, the saw that is. Memory now serves and it came from a place in Boreham, now long gone. If it starts tomorrow I shall celebrate. I truly believe in deliberately built in obsolescence by European manufacturers and industrial sabotage practiced on an industrial scale. How else would you fund a new world chainsaw order. I love your tour De force and i do require a professional Doctor.

Re: Stihl Chainsaws
Pickle no offence at all mate, just pointing out that stihl are the world leaders by quite some margin so its not just my saws that work
As for bar oil, i just look around for the best deal on 50ltrs. Its a total loss lubrication system so i'm notvtoo fussed on the brand.....normal engine oil will ruin your bar and chain though
