Rod.
You would have a bloody good drive if you had to deliver to "that Duport Steelworks" these days, after they installed a huge number of overhead pylons to bring in the significant amount of electricity for their electric arc furnaces, they numbered all the parts of their specialized steel making plant like a giant jigsaw, boxed it all up and shipped it all off to South Africa to be rebuilt and re-commissioned. The whole ex-Duport site is now a leisure area and is called Sandy Water Park with it's imitation wildlife pond and is also the proud location of a number of "Disney style Druid Stone Circles" and a huge round cobbled/hard standing landing area that is ready for when the Star Ship Enterprise makes an appearance. I reckon we used to run down New Dock Rd, then do a left (marine Rd?) for a few yards, over the T junction and straight in the gates. I can remember waiting and watching the gates to make sure the ministry weren't in the weighbridge before I pulled on, I may have been a little bit over

Looks like it's altered a lot now, can only be for the better

Don't suppose the coke ovens exist now either ? Can't remember where they were but I know they were out in the hills.

Rod.
Change of subject ? Do you send any fabricated steel work to be hot dipped galvanized ? do you know what the prices would be in your area, would it by the weight of the steel ?, or the surface area of the steel ?
Thanks Phil

Haven't sent any for years Phil, and last time they went by dipped surface area. Land Rover 90 chassis used to be about £80, but that was about twenty odd years ago
However, they are / were very good at it, never warped a chassis. They knew what they were doing.

Right gents, solve this one  A mate brought a hand axe in today that he remembers using at his grans to chop kindling, and he reckons it was old then. Seeing as how he's 65 or 66 this axe must be getting on a bit. Anyway, we chucked it in the shot blast cabinet and got the crud off to find this logo.
The outline is an elongated diamond shape, it's a continuous stamped outline . The first # is unreadable, the A and G "look" pretty clear (but could be wrong), the second # looks like a downstroke from an L or E or F etc, the F again looks pretty clear (could be wrong again)
So, who made it, that's the question ?

# A G # F

No prizes for tracing the manufacturer as yet, but as first prize trying to arrange a cosy night in for two with Adam (Sunndog) on the settee with all his dressing up gear on  Bring your own inflatable and scented oils of choice
