some bloke M42 to E700 adaptor
Re: some bloke M42 to E700 adaptor
Dave, just to recap have just re fitted the original new unadulterated standard full length E body avec camera in to the ADR and the difference in image quality is quite marked - much better definition. Also I discovered that the 50mm SLR lens does not like looking through double glazing unlike the board lenses that seem take it in their stride. Crumbs it doesn't take much to take the edge off the image quality. let you know.

some bloke your just like my wife - always right. Got myself in to a tight fizz there. Must be my eyes, however, have just sprayed the tapered jobbie inside and out with matt black paint (more matt than the original) to cover the shiny bits and re fitted it to find the set up now produces a much more delicate, refined image far better than the board lens on the other spotter build, (which is still impressive in my book) with no appreciable flare/fog. The E700 sensor/firmware seems to literally hunt for the best rendering, the only restriction being the SLR lens in this case I think. The SLR aperture ring seems to be the limiting factor as you can literally 'see' the sensor circuitry making the best of what it's given continually adjusting to movement and light levels. You are correct in saying that this type of SLR lens gives good results (more than good) and it does focus well DOF wise right down to just a few yards out to infinity. It's really weird as sometimes the E700 seems to stay in focus from distance to foreground without having to re focus with the barrel. If this little camera has one fault it is that it tries too hard. You are to be congratulated Dave and I hope i haven't missed anyone else out here. Now to see what the night brings.

I expect there are a few fingers crossed for after dark. Alf.

some bloke, message for you me hearty. My new some bloke build lives and sees in the dark with astounding clarity. Not quite sure how it will perform at distance but my word, close in (up to about 40yds so far) it excels. Have tacked on a little TX38 for the time being for illumination and surprisingly your Weaver mount was pretty much aiming it on the money. There is some disparity between 25mm board lens and 50mm M42 but early days and on the face of it i am quite chuffed with M42 having the edge thus far. This is more fun than one can have with a sharp stick in a balloon factory. This week i may be able to swap around a selection of M42 lenses in daylight to get a flavour. I'll shut up now.
