A some bloke Black Sun Spotter

Post by some bloke » 30 Oct 2015, 08:43

This is a one off trial assembly to make new spec spotters with integral Black Sun T50 and C mount TV lenses. It's unfortunately not going to be a regular build as the torch and lens have to be too close to the upper and lower curved edges that requires a lot of time to be spent gap filling.

It has a KTC E700 camera, an integral T50 Black Sun IR illuminator with three mode selection and an F1.4 50mm lens suited for foxing/rabbiting etc.

The upper switch controls the 3 mode IR in much the same way as a regular single cell T50 tail switch and the lower switch operates the optics - using completely separate circuits and batteries to avoid interference. In good moonlight you only need to use the optics but the switches are positioned so that both can be turned on simultaneously with two fingers in poor light conditions. The latching switches are clearly 'in' when turned on so there is a visual reference that can be checked and they are in a position where they are unlikely to get accidentally knocked on or off.

Buyer uses his own 18650 cells: I never supply anything with batteries in case they or the user messes up - so I won't get to be a blame culture victim.

The tripod/handle has two 'swing out' legs that allow it to double up as a tripod. It is screwed into a metal bush fitted into the underside of the box.
A solid machined handle with a lanyard hole in it can be supplied as an alternative carrier if requested.

This is how the 5" monitor is removed to fit the batteries:

Just out of curiosity Dave, what would the continuous run time be on one of these ?

Over three hours non stop for the optics with good batteries.

The IR would depend on what power its on but ends up the same as if it were a clip on torch - I've not tried the duration with AS LED's TBH.

Suggest it might be a good idea to carry spares for long term constant 'on' over a bait station for example.

Be quite a while on and off as a normal spotter though

Sale confirmed - another site.

I'm posting this rather than just updating my last post or title because someone who has not posted on this site only comes in once a week or so and then takes over a week to get his daughter to send advance payment for a spec I don't have any more. LOL.

He seems a nice bloke who is not experienced with forums so please excuse the seemingly pointless bumps of this this thread.

Rooksroad - this is similar to the ones I will have available in the week.

The price will be £240 posted - and as you are unknown to us the payment will need to be made as a friend - (that means it cannot be taken back)
