Ian i had a problem with one of my new T20's after changing the pill and it turned out to be the tailswitch sticking which we only found out by swapping the switch over with an old one it was easily fixed just by keep pressing the brass pin inside the tailcap for a couple of minutes , it may be worth suggesting this to your customer.SikaStag wrote:Mate
Thanks for the kind words.
I have to say. I get lots of positive feedback from customers. I especially like it when they give results of a night out. I wished I could say this was 100% of the time. I have had some pills returned that are not working when delivered. I test everything in a T20 before sending them out. I had one returned yesterday and tested it on the bench top power supply only to find it was working fine. Then put it in a T20 to find it was still working fine.
Its a mystery.

Ian, do you think that a different choice of battery may be the reason? Might be worth trying different batteries of protected, unprotected, 2000 mAh, 3000 mAh etc.
If you have a good power supply and it works well, the only thing that is replaced is the battery. As you know, some batteries brands advertise larger capacity than the actual one.
Just a thought.

Very good thought indeed.
A lot of people do not look for the quality in a battery. They look for the cheap price and the outrageously high mA figures given. I am aiming these remarks at the Trustfire batteries. Go on to Torchy the battery boys web site and have a read all about Trustfire batteries. They are using reclaimed batteries from Lap top battery packs.
4200mA on the label and nothing like that under the label. I can buy batteries for a few $ as well as less than $2 for a charger. I would not sell them to my customers. I say use the best. Some people will rather buy cheap shnite rather buy the right batteries the first time. I leave the choice up to the customer, to buy what they want to buy.

Do you know what is the minimum battery requirement for the pills you supply?
Just a note sent with the pills or T20s it can avoid related problems.
I think that not many people know what to look for when buying batteries. They just see the battery size, the price and think to get the cheapest.
With knowledge, I don't think many people would go for the cheapest.

This is the specification for the drivers 1 or 2 battery.
1. Input voltage:2.9V-8.4V;
2. Output: 1050mA/LED
3. With low-voltage protection. When voltage is 2.9V-3.0V, it will alarm for the low voltage pressure, it will flash in lowest brightness every second.
4. Default is 3-Mode: 5%,50%,100%.
5. With Memory function.

In a single 18650 battery set up driving an oslon, the battery will need to supply around 1 amp. In a 2 battery set up the current would only be about half that.
That would imply that the cheap nasty batteries which struggle to put out much current would actually work better is a 2 battery set up since they don't have to supply as much current.
Having said that, there's no point in spending good money on a top class illuminator like Ian produces and then stick cheap batteries in it.
Genuine Panasonics, Sanyo or Senybor batteries will all do the job, and as we've said many times before, Torchy the battery boy only sells good kit and he is UK based.
Cheers

I disagree with you Franco. I think that 4200mA draws people to them like a magnet. They see a cheap price for the battery and BOOM. That is the on for me. Not knowing they are wasting money on them.
I have a link on my Facebook page irlightbuilds to Torchy the battery Boys web page where customers can see for them selves all the testing he has done with the various brands.
When I was selling single mode single battery T20's. I would put a £1 to a penny that there was people putting 2 CRA batteries into the single 18650 battery driver and frying the driver. They then get back to you and say it is not working. I test with the bench power source then in a T20, the T20 sits on Highest mode for about a minute before it gets packaged away. Yet people have problems. It could be the batteries for sure. I test all pills sent back and there will be 60-70% that work fine.

I have 300 x single battery 3 mode drivers as well as 200 x single mode drivers arriving on Monday or Tuesday. As well as the 300 x 1 or 2 battery drivers I am using at present.
Also 200 Cree XPE Red leds and 100 Green XPE led's
Some people prefer the single mode to the 3 modes. Hence the single drivers back in stock.
I also have a selection of white led's to test to see which is the best. People are asking more for white led's.
Always looking to improve.

Just received my second order from Ian. Ordered on the 4th. Mailed on the 4th. Arrived in Australia on the 10th. Can't beat one week turn around for international orders.
I'm quite impressed by the T20 rat tail switch from Ian. Quality of the tail cap is on the same level as the T20 - very good, it appears to be identical to the T20 tail cap, in so far as the threads, milling, anodizing, brass pressure pad & internal collar are the same. It either comes from the same factory as the T20 or the manufacturer takes care with their quality control, something uncommon with the Chinese flashlight manufacturers.
I have the momentary switches from DX for the 501B, these require you to hold the switch "on" to use the torch. Ian's T20 switches have the momentary feature for a quick flash and orientation. They also have a second switch that acts as a three mode On/Off. Press once and the light turns on. Press again and it engages the next mode, etc. It has a memory, so it turns on in the next mode in sequence to the last. So if you turned it off on 'Low' it will turn on on 'Disco'. Turn it of off on 'Disco' and it will turn on on 'High'.
One interesting feature is that if you turn it off on Low then engage the momentary function, the momentary switch will turn on on disco So cycling the modes before switching off is a good idea if you will need to get a snap sight picture.
For single mode drop in pills it works just fine, as On, Off or Momentary.
Overall length is the same as the 501B rat tail. The plastic cover over the dual switch sits higher than the 501B switch and therefore may be more prone to cracking over time. As the cost is minimal & the functionality much improved, I'm happy to live with that risk.
I'm aware that Marky sell a similar or identical product. But he does not export, so Ian is the go-to guy for members not in Britain. Ian is also willing to answer my more uninformed illumination questions via email without calling me a complete Nong. So if you are in need of a pill or a switch, I'm happy to recommend Ian/Sika Stag. I assume his complete T20s are fine too, but I buy my own from LED Supermall in China. I just wish they were as fast as Ian when it comes to getting product into the post.
