Heh. Where American shooting forums have "Glock Vs 1911" & "9mm vs .45" threads every single day, on UKNVF we have 501B vs T20 threads.
Simply put the best you can do with the 501B is an Oslon Black 850nm IR drop in pill, and an Ash Horton custom aspheric lens and spacer.

Hi... Jim? there are several upgrade options - from a simple LED colour swap to better LED's, a choice of aspheric lenses and focal spacers instead of reflectors.
Perhaps you could indicate exactly which 501b you have - and exactly what range you want from it and if you want to use it for night vision - if so what type of night vision - and if you wish to Do It Yourself or simply buy the upgrades to drop them in yourself.
