Trail Cam

Post by Harleyman » 06 Jan 2020, 14:55

Anybody got a trail cam that they are not using anymore and could do with moving in? I could do with one to check elusive deer movements on one of my permissions. I got a cheap Chinese one that is fine when it decides to work, but is not reliable. Not bothered about one that sends alerts to your phone etc, can be basic as long as it works reliably and captures reasonable inages at night as well as in daylight. Thanks

Afternoon TS.

Having bought (for a laugh) a few optics products from Aldi/Lidl to see how good they were I wouldn't bother if I were you. They are cheap sure, but very cheaply made too...

I would however suggest you look on Amazon at the Apeman range of cameras. You're not going to be troubling D Attenborough with the footage, but if you simply want to ascertain species, numbers, sex, size, entry/exit points etc they're ideal. The advantage is there are hundreds of user reviews/pictures and videos (youtube) that you can browse to see if one would suit you. There's also lots of reviews and start up guides on the 'Tube too.

Keep a look at the 'lightning deals' for extra savings. Think mine cost £34. Add some batteries and a £8 SD card and you're good to go.

Hope it helps

Thanks for that info. I have looked at the Apeman cams on Amazon, got lots of good reviews, so that might be the answer. The one i have already cost about the same a couple of years ago, but doesn't have a screen or any setup menu etc and only works when it is in the mood!

Bought the Apeman 20mp camera. Looks really good, different league to the similar priced cheapo i bought a couple of years ago. Tried it the garden last night and it worked fine, capturing a fox on the wall and later on a cat. Looking forward to using it one of my deer permissions to see when they are out and about. Thanks for the tip.
