Some bloke part built pistol grip spotter kits for sale.

'Some bloke' part built pistol grip spotter kits for sale - ideally suited to someone who has thought about making a spotter and maybe already has an EVO IR torch and other parts floating about. The harder to fit or drill parts that will simplify a DIY build variation of the 'some bloke' Pistol grip spotter are already done for you. Other parts you can buy cheaper yourself are linked to below.

Before going any further I should say you need to have a knack for DIY and a few hand tools including cable snips/strippers, a small drill and a soldering iron - and know how to use them. You also need to have a plan about your wiring before you delve into this. I don't make mine with built in battery packs and charger ports, nor use volt droppers or filters - so I won't go into the wiring of that format. I prefer separate switches and circuits, and 18650 batteries that can be rescued from redundant laptop batteries or bought on ebay.

Your spotter with the integrated torch and lens fittings will end up something like this:

The kit will consist of:

The custom moulded project box, made to accept the SURE24 5" monitor as a friction fit lid, shown in this video - and how to open it:

The shortened inside tapped EVO torch single battery tube, spanner and loctite fitted with a bush through the project box, then drilled, tapped and grub screwed from inside to prevent rotation. It will be supplied with a 3 power memory mode 850nm AS LED IR pill, with trailing 1mm solid copper cables. Also observe the neck of the E700 camera body needs to be shortened to be about level with or below the inner flange of the lens adaptor:

You fit your own EVO torch head with either 38mm, 50mm or 67mm lens. A 50mm TV lens is the most commonly used, 25mm are also available.

Note the two grub screws preventing the torch body from rotating. Also note the C mount lens adaptor - fitted to the project box has an O-ring behind it that allows the lens to tilt and view slightly lower than the torch beam so the foreground of the image doesn't get swamped out. the 'tilt' screws are just outside the flat edges of the E700 body. The cropped neck of the E700 metal case is a snug friction fit into the adaptor, it is secured with silicone adhesive or hot melt glue and pushed firmly against the adaptor until the adhesive sets:

Two very quiet latching push switches.
A 1/4" 20tpi nut to secure the handle.
3x one metre three core cables, one to be cut for hard wiring the spotter and two that can be used to extend the monitor into your truck like this if you wish:

What you see is what you get in the kit;

Price is £90 collected - or £100 posted RMSD.

What you need to buy to build the remainder

The SURE24 camera/monitor bundle deal:

You buy your choice of torch head with 38mm, 50mm or 67mm lens here, the 75mm head might foul the lens:

The C mount lens adaptor is made to suit these 50mm C mount F1.4 Cine/TV lenses:

If wiring them the way I do you will need one single and one double series 18650 battery carrier. This vendor has both in his drop down boxes. You will need to cut the central part of the sides off to allow room for your thumb to get better access to remove the batteries, see that done on the second photo:

These batteries are a good buy:

This pistol grip handle is a good buy:

If you really don't want to wait for items to come from China I should be able to supply some of the parts for you - but I won't tie up funds to sell them at the price I paid for them - and you'd then be better off buying one of my ready built one's anyway.
