They never flagged up the numerous conservation and biodiversity benefits associated with sporting estates; best Springwatch was on a keepered estate in Devon, not a mention. You only have to take a look at any of the RSPV (not a mistake!) reserves here in Scotland to see the paucity of species when compared with keepered estates.
Went for an e-bike ride today, saw a number of lapwings, oystercatchers etc on a locally keepered estate, funny (!) thing was that they'd been rung by the birds boays, and were now encumbered with detritus snagged on the ring on their legs. You can see it everywhere they operate. An osprey nest and an eagles eyrie here come to mind, both 'loved' to abandonment by the enthusiastic ring monkeys. Try having a look at the Oa, Islay, or Abernethy, Cairngorms - hardly a species but vermin, none of the vulnerable species:
and yet, they're meant tae gie tae us bio-diversity;
Well, talk's real cheap, upo ' their bus, for noo, best wait an' see
SGA pushing for returning public funding awarded to such bodies when they don't deliver after a number of years.
