Spent the afternoon sitting behind a camo net, in a woodland not 500 yards from the motor. Watched the sunlight dappled trees and bushes swaying in the breeze next to a brook. Had food and a flask at the side of me, guns up against a tree. Not a thing to shoot but I didn't care at all, I was just happy to be there listening to the birds and watching nature do it's thing.

sounds like a grand time rodders. we've all had those days, not a thing shows up, but you don't care in slightest

Out at dawn one day, on the river after brownies and as I quietly approached the bank, I saw a kingfisher working the far bank, from a branch overhanging the river.

Left the fly gear behind a tree and stayed on the bank for two hours, just watching the kingfisher. Sun breaking through. No road noise. The smell of wild garlic.

When he left, I left. Picked up my gear and back home by breakfast time. One of my best sessions yet.

You have to feel sorry for folk that can't see these sort of things, they're just oblivious to it. Unfortunately that'll be about 99% of the younger generation.

took the boy out last night, to sit out near an earth, waiting for a vixen.......

he's progressed from the .22 to the 17 fireball and i now feel confident that he's safe,

got to the site about 8 oclock, left him on the polaris so he had a good steady rest and a comfy seat, pointed out his arcs of fire, told him to switch his mobile to silent, sit as still and as quiet as poss. told him what direction I would be coming back from and that I'd call him to let him know 5 mins before hand

returned an hour and a half later and asked if he'd seen anything?.... he was well made up......although the vixen didn't show, two badgers had come within 30 foot of him, and a muntjac buck even closer...

he said he couldn't believe they didn't know he was there .......

I think the penny has finally dropped ........... I've been trying to instill in him, its not a case of shooting something every time we go out, but to respect and appreciate the wildlife on ground that we have the privilege to shoot on.

as we drove home, he was asking if we can do the same again this coming week so he can take the camera as well as the rifle
