How dose motion detection works
How dose motion detection works
On most cameras there is a motion detection function, dose any one use it? I did play a while back. You have to specify a zone or two, and than what. Can someone explain it. I just can't get my head around it.
I would be nice to have a alarm function once anything detected, but there is no extra wiring. Dose camera switches off while detecting and comes on when something moves in the zone?
Anyone with a insight?

Re: How dose motion detection works
As far as I know movement triggers recording on the dvr and it's set up on the dvr. I believe it detects changes in the pixel values but from experience it can be triggered by any sort of movement so wouldn't be any use on a weapon sight. It's how the trailcams work but even a few long blades of grass blowing in the wind can set it off.

With me motion detection usually starts with bellyache

Re: How dose motion detection works
In the case of a cheap motion detector, you have two parts. First, an IR LED/Array. Second, and IR Photo Transistor. The IR LED is lit constantly. When an object/person walks through the light beam emitted by the IR LED, the IR light is reflected off the person. The Photo Transistor, sensing the reflected light, will vary the current in an (engineered circuit) and cause some device to turn on/operate. The Photo Transistor is amplifying a current signal, and is essentially a switching device, which is "switched" via absence or presence of [in this application] IR light.

Thanks god a serious answer.
Frogman:
What you are referring is a PIR. Which I understand the way it works, not as technical as you.
But what I was referring was the motion detection option on the camera menu. Surely it must trigger something, but what! And how?
Terry:
So dose it send a signal to a dedicated dvr? So without a dvr it's quite useless.
I know on some of the ip cameras it trigger a alarm. Can it be configured to sound a alarm on e700?
