First of all awesome forum!! I've been glued to this for days!! You craftsmenship and engineering is something to be extremly proud of!!

I'm an American living in Texas and have been interested in buying a NV set up for some time. I just couldn't bring myself to pay that kind of money for as little as I'd be able to use it. With all that being said I would be very interested in a set up for my pig gun. ( we are overrun with wild pigs) I'm currently shooting a 300 blackout. And most shots are 50- 150 yards mostly holding and conventional spot light with walking or vehicle/ATV. Which works but is frustrating at times. I think this DIY is the way to go.

A few questions I thought I'd ask:

Will these DIY setups handle the recoil? ( I understand it would be as strong as I make it... But will the actual components take the recoil?)

Are there any part sources in America? Thought I may be able to avoid long shipping times and the currency issues...I've done some researching and not having much luck. I just think there would be somewhere somewhat local to order from or pick up.

And is the range of 100-150 yards obtainable?

Any help would be appreciated! And I'm sure ill have more questions as this continues!

i myself am "curious" about what kind of recoil the electronics in the camera can take too. Guys are reporting "fine" with 243 and prolly one or two experimentin with more... i dont know who has tried their kit out on a 308 or 30-06 full house load yet, tho... someone prolly has...

distance? oh god... my first build, once i got the filter off my camera? 150 yards straightaway then more, lol... my add on's do 300 to 400 on a half decent night, or its not a good build... and i have pictures of "scopeless" seeing well over a thousand yards on the right night. (between 500 and 800 is more reasonable with no moon out)

half decent illuminator? add on system of an established build? you'll see 150 NO PROBLEM.

for boar out to 150yrds. i reckon a yukon photon with t20 illuminator would be an awsome compact little set up

if you do want to go d.i.y.....as sedster sort of said, we don't really build anything that wont do 150yds on here
a sub 150yrd'er would be considered a pretty short range build

a t-20 ir light and a kpc ej230nuwx behind your day scope is the way to go. It handles the recoil behind my 223 and 280 fine. I can tell the difference between a posum and a racoon at 700 feet.

x2 to almost your entire post. Great info guys. I recently built my first set up. I am working on a T20 with a Oslon Black Led at the moment. I reflowed them onto a star last night....still a little surprised at how easy it was..... I haven't been able to find a reasonably priced supplier in the US for the camera. I ordered mine from securitycamera2000. My LCD screen came from ebay ( shipped from USA ). If you are going to make an illuminator you can get the T20 from a US shipper on ebay. Mouser has the LEDs and stars but despite an exhaustive search I have been unable to find the Oslon Black IR, in the US, already on a star.

The prices on cameras have went way up the last few months. Here's a couple places to get cameras, these are e700 links, they also have ej230:

You can find some stuff in the US, but you will generally pay more than ordering from chopstick land and waiting a few weeks.
Get a laptop battery and carefully take it apart for good 18650 batteries, just don't short them out taking it apart!
