Hi all,
I'm new to night vision, had a weirauch 80 for ten years.
Not done much shooting to be honest.
But I've just put my name down on a waiting list for a gun club.
I'm looking at target shooting to improve my shot.
Been shooting a few rats on a friends back garden, but they have got rather shy,
Hence why I joined this forum, I need some DIY night vision cheap but I don't know where to start.

Depends on what you call 'cheap'. A good starting point i this build:

All up with illuminator it will set you back 250 quid and give performance equivalent to a 600 quid off the shelf job, around 150 to 200 usable meters.

Hi Spreader you came to the right place bud.

I drifted in and out of NV over a couple of years, always feeling things were being made by camera techies who don't really get to use them much. I once wrote that they ought to put the objective bell and eyebell in the right place and fit whatever else anywhere it will go.

Than a couple of lads primed me up with bits and pieces of what to get and where (Chas and Co.) and here I am still playing and enjoying it too.

Were you ever any good at Blue Peter? Did you make yourself a go cart when you were a kid still in short trousers?

Reminds me: I made a go kart out of (wood - natch) bits I found in a rubbish dump when kids were allowed to be kids. The steering mechanism was a piece of rope. They were the days when you could rattle down a hill and straight across a main road without thinking about the consequences. I eventually made a hand brake for it though... (with another piece of wood )

Goodness, is it that time already? I got a bit carried away there, sorry.

Hey up Sam,

Welcome to the forum. I don't know if you're contemplating putting a night vision set up on a springer but I wouldn't recommend it, the 2 way recoil on a springer is not good for them. It's a dual action recoil, once when the trigger is pulled which recoils backwards and the other when the piston reaches the end it goes forwards, better to get a PCP or Co2 at the least.
