Hi NV People,

My name is Matthew and i live in London. I usually spend my time on the Daystate forum. I shoot FAC DS Airwolf .22 and FX Boss .30. Also i shoot Rimfire Magic .22lr semi and .22 Anschutz bolt action. My scopes i use are Swarovski, Zeiss and Hawke.

So, interested on doing a bit of night shooting and it seems to be a bit of a mine field out there regarding what kit to buy, therefore i have to do my ground work and invest my hard earned money on a decent bit of kit. I know the question to my question from all of you already "What's your budget", Answer, "Value for money" (Been here/there before 35 years shooting in daylight to be exact). What seems to be popping up on youtube allot lately is the Yukon Proton. The second answer to your question is, i shoot mainly rabbits out to 80 metres.

Any directions would be most appreciated

Hi Matt, you got here just in time to find out what might be good to go for if any are reduced in the January sales mate.

Yep the PHoton is coming out to be a very popular choice, especially at those sub 100 yard ranges if you can tie up a rifle to mostly night vision. The shortage of them kept the prices at full RRP everywhere, but it seems the supply has now about caught up with the demand.

As you are totally new to NV, I'd be interested to know what magnification you think you might use for NV - given you can't see outside the scope field of view in the dark unless you also use a spotter - or a very dim red lamp - like wot I sometimes do.

I'm a bit dyslexic so I'll try and get more out than that in my own clumsy round the houses sort of way:

Day scope wise, you look around to spot your target in daylight - then get to where you want to be to make the shot.
Night time lamping you get to pan a lamp around to spot your quarry with your eyes - or possibly only eye shine so you then take a better look through your scope, still with the help of your eyesight in regard to exactly where to point your rifle.

Now imagine wearing a balaclava with only one eye hole - which is fixed to the rifle scope and you have to pan the rifle around to search for any quarry through the scope only, move closer to it then re-acquire your quarry again, possibly a few times as you get into position before settling down for the shot.

The reason I'm asking is because dedicated NV rigs are fixed mag - and mostly 5 mag or less which is fairly easy to acquire with.
Many add-on rigs are used at higher mags when both the scope mag and the camera lens length are added together.

Referring to some bloke's questions;

I recon I would be shooting a maximum of 7 mag and it wouldn't bother me if it was fixed.
I would like a home made unit which would be fixed to a dedicated rifle, probably my 22 semi or my FAC Wolf.
The main thing I am looking for is simplicity and clarity. I would like to be able to see a rabbit eye lashes fluttering at me at about 40 metres
I don't mind buying kit from you guys as well......

G'day Mat & welcome to the forum.
No one is making and selling a scopeless unit. If you want one then you are looking at commercial units such as the Photon, Drone Pro & Pulsar N750.
The drone pro & N750 are digital scopes, the Photon is actually a form of add on unit, its bolted in front of the host scope.
The common problem with home made scopeless builds has been maintaining zero, even when set at a fixed magnification. If you want to go down that road you will need to do some research and accept you may run into some difficulties. There are several threads in the DIY section but none have been updated recently.

Marky610 is making an add on that fits behind your day scope, the NT300. The 300 stands for 300 meters, the effective range. If you have a good day scope with front or side parallax adjustment then that may be the way to go. If you look at Marky's Youtube channel you will find he is more prolific than Rolaids, less into numbers research and more into building and experimenting.
