Just read through the post and iv'e seen post about , antlers and postage charges and introductions from newcomers to the forum....welome!. I'd like to share my recipe for sloe gin , for anybody that likes sloe gin this is the dogs and it's so simple!!

1. sloe berries or damsons ( frozen overnight then pricked with a fork, or pick them after the first frost)

2. gin. cheapest you can buy in the supermarket

3. sugar. can be caster sugar ,ive also had a very interesting result with golden caster sugar

mix equal amounts of each ( in weight ) in a small demijohn, or large one if you want!
turn every day for the first week, then every couple of days till sugar disappears.
after 5/6 weeks it will be nearly black , mmmmm.
remove berries .
enjoy.
A lovely warming drink... had some tonight whilst on a stake out for Charlie with my mate... farted.... descended into fits of laughter... realised we were wasting our time .... got in car ...come home ....typed this ...had more gin......

nite nite chaps

Thanks for that. I've never tried sloe gin.

Is it not easier and cheaper just to drink the gin  ?

You need to try some George, it's a traditional shooting tipple and really good on a cold day out (obviously in appropriate quantities).

This is my third year making Sloe Gin or Sloe Vodka, there's about a gallon of it sat in the garage now
The first year I did get it a bit to sweet, sort of toxic Rosehip syrup style, that brew never reached maturity due to taking too many samples  but it was bloody good all the same.
The present brew has been going for 3 months now so great things are expected of it, one thing we did do although I don't know if it's recommended, was to freeze the berries then defrost before use in the hope it made them more porous.
Looking forward to having some over Christmas as long as a certain other person doesn't give to much of it away in a moment of madness.

It's lurvly gear ,mmm...but don't try the supermarket sloe gin , it's totally different!! horrid stuff!... I got the recipe ages ago from a friend of the wifes who lives in York, some kinda witch who knows all the different plants to heal yer arthritis etc. If you want to try summat a bit different ,try making it with golden caster sugar, it gives it a lovely malty taste!. A little tip , don't wash the dusty coating off the sloes or damsons , it's a natural yeast and it helps it ferment. Chas have you tried the brandy? ... same recipe but use black cherries ( wild if you can ) and the cheapest brandy...... god I sound like 'kin wino

who's round is it? .....atb ...john
