After much deliberation and listening to the wealth of info on this site I finally took the plunge and bought a pulsar h38s. All I can say is thank you as its bl**dy amazing!
It has far exceeded my expectations. When walking the dogs last thing at night I have been taking the binoculars and a nm800. Can almost guarantee a glimse of deer or fox or hare or rabbit. But this has been a revelation, I had no idea we have so much wildlife on the farm. The odd deer has turned out to be a herd of at least 6 to 8. The fox turns out to be several, the odd hare turns out to be nearer a dozen, all this on my door step!
Clearing barns of pigeons with air rifle at night and the resulting tidy up has been a breeze. Need to find a way of incorporating it with a rifle scope. Rabbits and foxes are next!
I suppose the biggest surprise is being able to observe the animals behaviour as they don't appear to be bothered by our presence. But then again I'm not blinding them with a beam of light first. Rabbits, hares and the horses don't seem too perturbed when foxy passes close by. Vermin in the stacked straw bales in barns has turned out to be little birds roosting to keep warm at night. The muck midden and silage clamp come alive with the thermal, looking like what I can only describe as lava.
I was expecting a limited range but you can pick up livestock kms' away. At night at least you can discern the surrounding country side and see the wind turbines a couple miles away.
Now I just need to find a dvr.

So once again to the guys who post reports and opinions on this site, thank you. You have certainly opened my eyes to observing the wildlife on my doorstep.

Hi Andy, welcome to the forum.

I think most shooters use thermal as a finder then either a visible red lamp or NV rifle equipped scope to deal with what he finds with it.

Good stuff Andy.... they certainly are some 'bits of kit'!

As Dave said above you'd struggle to get an HD38S mounted on your rifle and see anything through it........ it just don't work through glass... or plastic for that matter - just look at someone wearing specs.

The best place to get a thermal rifle scope is probably from Ian Johnstone at Armstrong Optical.... they do show the Guide version but when I last got a price on the Guide 518C's from him earlier this year he said they were sourcing some from another chinese manufacturer - still up around the £7 or £8k mark though!

I did read something in the paper yesterday that the broadband providers were installing naughty blockers...... including Virgin..... with a name like that they'll be blocking themselves no doubt!

Good stuff George... I hope it's just a virgin' blip, I'm missing them already... everythingelse seems to be loading at normal speed.

That reminds me, I need to go and look see if I've got a pic of the Kite on the LRS for you... otherwise I'll take a pic tomorrow morning.
