Thermal Imaging Lens?

Hi,
I have just watched a video on YouTube from 'Mikes Electric Stuff', recently he has been testing a Flir Thermal Imaging Camera and has tried to make some improvements.
He says that the model he has doesn't focus near enough for him to check circuit boards so he brought some Zinc selenide lenses to magnify the image.
I thought it was just germanium lenses which allowed the heat wavelength through?
The Zinc selenide lenses are £20-£40 from china, im wondering if they could be used for a DIY Thermal?
Here is the video if anyone is interested-
