meteors...

Just been watching some of the early meteors with the Nv's
Cascade tubed spotter to start with, then when my arms were suitably tired switched to using the pvs.
Never get tired (apart from the arms with that bloody great cascade  ) of watching them on a good night.
Anyone else been having a look?

Anyhoo, I got wondering....
You guys using thermal, if you look for them, would the meteors show up on those too?
Got to be kicking out some considerable heat as they burn up or is the distance too great?
Never used thermal myself (yet) so just curious if it works.....

Didn't check out the meteor shower as I was doing a family airport run, but I'm guessing, that as they are a heat source, as you say, that the thermal would pick them up.

Probably a better image with nv though.

I would be surprised if the thermal would pick them up because of the distance. And yes I would think the better image would be thought the nv units.

Probably too small to see. Though the normal clear night sky is something like -40degc so the potential of good contrast.

Well I was out tonight and as Charlie wasn't interested in playing either I had a look skywards with the guide. There was some very high planes and I could see them clearly. And I could even see the clouds so yes maybe you could see the meteors. I think the hardest thing would have been the field of vision.

The things you learn.
