One for the electronics experts me thinks ??

Right men, I've had a brainwave Shortly we will be bringing the land Rover home from the works, and in an ideal world we would like it to stay here unmolested, not robbed. We could do all the usual things such as pedal lock, battery isolator etc, etc but they can still pull it on a transporter. This land Rover, although only a series 11A, has strong family ties. It was my Nephews first motor, his pride and joy, it was rebuilt from the chassis up (mostly at my expense I think as he seemed to spend an awful long time mooching in the parts stores ). Unfortunately he was killed in a boating accident a few years back off the IoW, and this vehicle was then deemed a family treasure never, ever to be parted with.

So, the question is. Is there any sort of sensor that could be secured inside the house or garage that would detect the vehicle through a wall, a sort of powerful metal detector. This could then be wired to the house alarm which would activate if someone removed the vehicle

trouble with just an alarm..................if no ones about they will still nick it and you wont know where its gone, at least with a tracker you can follow

+1 on the tracker.

Don't use the normal battery, you want a backup battery incase the starter battery is disconnected

trouble with just an alarm..................if no ones about they will still nick it and you wont know where its gone, at least with a tracker you can follow

Good idea Jock, but they'll have the tracker out / disabled in less than ten minutes mate . It would make a good backup though, just in case they're amateurs and can't find it (why can I never spell that flamin' word, always comes up wrong on spell check )

I'll add an extra siren at home, something no-one will ignore

+2 for a tracker and/or a hefty ground anchor round the chassis at the gearbox somewhere. failing that. depending on where its kept put it up on blocks or stick a dog in the back

Ha ha, I meant ONLY a 11A with reference to it being thieved, it's usually Defenders that go with the odd series thrown in for luck.
Ground anchor won't stop them, no chance. Putting on blocks will be a pain as it will be used regularly for nipping around in.

The idea of a sensor was so that it would just mean the flick of a switch at night and it's protected. There's got to be something around that can sense 1200kg of metal through a wall, or even bury the sensor in the drive.

Edit, as said before, trackers aren't a problem, they just scan them and remove, that's why Defenders never get returned to the owners.

what about a photocell installed in the garage/drive floor, under the landy, connected to a siren.................when the vehicle is moved, light switches the photocell, which in turn sounds the siren

sure Mr. Bruce will be along soon..............he's pretty handy in the dark art of electickery

nowt will stop them if they want it mate, all you can do is make nicking it as much hassle as possible

when i suggested ground anchor, blocks and a dog i thought you were storing it....what about sommat like a traffic light sensor in your drive wired to a siren on the side of your house

trakker might be more effective on a series than a defender.......they may not expect it

Infrared laser and a photo cell would work.

Either set it up so (a) when the beam is broken (b)beam is connected a alarm sounds
