Scotland for a week late September, where should I go?

Gonna go take some pictures, sadly won't be doing any shooting as I can't cart my rifle round with me for the week, and I'm not paying those prices. Married a Yorkshire lass, see?.
So taking the auld man up for some photography, already had a few good ideas. Probably base somewhere round Inverness as it will get me to most places.
Planning and John o groats, Helmsdale, Cairngorms, dolphin watching, salmon jumping, if they are about then. Trip to see Nessie. Oh and possibly sneak I to mcleods to peek at second hand scopes.
Looking for Ideas of places to go or stay or must see. He is ok for walking as well providing it is not a forced 25 miler. Well he is 80 odd.
He doesn't drink, how odd for an Irishman? So pouring him into a pub isn't his thing, but I don't mind having one myself. Rural is good. He can get up early in the morning for his constitutional whilst I snore my head off.
