Airgun scope advice
Airgun scope advice
Right chaps,
I need two scopes to use with night vision on my air rifles. Something in the 3-12 range. So it has to parallax down to short distances as I hope to be using them mainly on rats. When I find somewhere to go ratting.
Been keeping an eye out for an old AGS but they seem to be a bit like rocking horse poo.
Any suggestions?

Re: Airgun scope advice
I have had both a Taipan and a viper. Neither impressed me enough to keep. And whilst I do hear a lot of people say the mamba is good, I am reluctant to get a 3rd one. I would never hear the end of it. I did like the Xmas tree reticle though.

Re: Airgun scope advice
I'd never have another Mamba. Mine went milky at about half mag in sunlight, grass looked bland and same as soil when lamping, the Ill ret bled everywhere even on the lowest settings, and that shttoooopittt (in my opinion) retical focus door knob is renickerless. It does however seem poplier with the NV bods.Gloop wrote:I have had both a Taipan and a viper. Neither impressed me enough to keep. Falcon merlin, 4x14-42, lovely ret too, but I wouldn't rule out the mamba just yet
Re: Airgun scope advice
For nv the mamba .. But it's not much cop in daylight imo

if mtc dint impress you i cant imagine ags will. they've both got that, looking through a muddy puddle feel about em
Re: Airgun scope advice
You can't even compare the ags and the mamba during the day
MTC scopes do suffer from a little quality control, you get the odd bad one but the majority are excellent, 10 times better in the day light than the ags.
I've had most of the MTC range at one time or other but have cut back to 2x 3-12x44's and 3x 4-16x50's. I didn't like the Taipan very much and the new genesis I sold before even mounting it, the build quality wasn't up to a £300+ scope. The Vipers are just as good as the Mamba's but once you have a few you start to realise how hard it is to get your rifles in and out of your cabinet due to the turrets that I never adjust anyway.
My preferred choice is the standard 30mm tubed Mamba, I like having the illuminated reticule modual on top as it act's as a stop when putting the dsa on meaning it goes on the right place every time with no messing about.
One bit of advice, steer clear of the higher mag scopes, they do tend to white out a little too easy

Land Rovers, who would be daft enough to own one?
Re: Airgun scope advice
Ah yes when I mention AGS I don't mean the new rubbish. I mean the olllld rubbish. Very good with night vision. Wouldn't touch the new ones with a barge pole. Might try the Leapers as they are cheap and it is for ratting. Hence wanting close focus. Max range is going to be 30 yards, most of the time it would be 10 yards or less.
