'' How Did It Start ?''

Post by 22-250jock » 21 Apr 2013, 09:01

hi guy's,

just been looking through the list of members, which seems to be growing at quite a rate by the way, and was wondering how the birth of the site/forum came about?
the conception seems to have started on the 14th oct 2011, with Silent Shooter being given the prestigious position of being the first member.
so in 18 months the site has gone from strength to strength, now standing at 1551 members, thats mighty impressive, and testement to how friendly and informative the site,

whoever helped in the setting up of the forum, WELL DONE

Well, Geoff (silent shooter) originally set-up and paid for the site and John (sirhank) did (and continues to do) all of the techie stuff.

There was originally another founder member, who greatly abused the good nature of Geoff and the forum, so went along his merry way a short time later. That's what you call 'burning his bridges' for sure, but the good thing is that the forum went from strength to strength, as did the content of the posts from the new members, and it continues to do so.

I'm co-owner of the forum along with Geoff and my membership number was originally no.8, but owing to the signing on problems we had at the beginning, I was relegated :( (we now know that was down to a browser/cookie problem). Declan (Gloop) is now a moderator and is a great help in sifting through membership applications and checking that bad language or bad conduct doesn't happen (thanks, Declan).

So, in pretty much exactly eighteen months, we now have over 1500 members. On the whole, these are genuine members, as we sift through them manually and get rid of spammers (can be hundreds per day). Not everyone is a poster. Some of us are watchers, and that's fine. You've seen the figures: 1.5 million pages viewed in 2012 alone.

What really pleases us is that people come onto the forum and comment on how friendly a place this is. In reading the various threads, you can see all of the offers of help. That's priceless.

We've had one or two problems along the way. All either minor technical problems or minor people problems. Hopefully, we have dealt with them, and will continue to deal with them as they happen.

Thanks to all of you for making the forum what it is today.

Admin.

The admin team do a great job, thanks to you all for the time and effort you put in to make the forum as good as it is, sometimes not an easy task.

You may not be worthy but you are permitted to bow down and worship me. :wtf:

But as just briefly mentioned, spammers, you have no idea of how many people from Romania and China want to join this forum, there is millions of the ( I was trying to spell illigitement, but gave up) sods.
We spent a good amount of time checking where people are from and then deleting them dodgy ones. We seem to get most of them. But there are one or two who get through the net and then post all the time. (Who said "laters taters?")

On the positive side it reduces the amount of stupid Posts I have time to do. :ugeek:

And now,
The nice bit.......

The forum is only as good as the members, so cheers to you all, even if I haven't a clue what you are talking about most of the time when the conversation goes beyond, the pointy end is the dangerous bit, point it away from you.

Normal service is resumed. :D

Why were you asking me to bow down again, oooh you are a one :D

Seriously now. Finding the balance between being too strict and not strict enough must be murder sometimes.including and especially all the background work must be a nightmare for the Mods too. You have got it right lads and should be commended for it

You are fortunate to have such an awesome bunch on your forum though, the best out there IMHO

H
...is this a pistol in my hand, or am I just pleased to see you ?

I wondered why my shoulder hurt every time I pulled the trigger  This site is absolutely full of good info

Seriously, good site and it's all down to Mods and members, a nice balance.
