Went down the farm to sort the horse out this evening as usual and saw a .........................................Swallow.

It's the first I've seen this year, no Martin or Swift yet though. Did see a two flycatchers the other day too.

ours tuned up on thurs last week,good to see em back,

never cease to amaze me how they travel thousands of miles and come back to the same barn every year

also found a little owls nest at the weekend,

Incredible aint it mate. Swifts amaze me, their in-flight whistles in groups towards the end of the summer send chills down my spine, they're like aerial horses of the apocalypse !

While we are on the subject, ducks. There's 3 WILD Mallard in our paddock, 2 drakes and a duck. Yesterday morning I walked past within 3 feet of the 2 drakes, tame as you like. Come September you won't get to within 80 yards of them ! The local Canada's and Grey's are much the same too, I watch their flight patterns all summer and September the 1st............all change ?

How do they know ?????

Oh yeah, I just remembered something. The last swallow I saw was at the end of the first week of DECEMBER last year !

They adhere to the close season and are well aware of the open season.

Summer is definitely here. Taxed the bike and put the roof down on the convertible and Pimms on order.

And we havent had to light the woodburner for the last 2 nights.

See that bit in the middle between the wheels? The bit that is 1/2 inch high? That is what we usually get here.
