Morning all.
After a long break from shooting and NV I’ve got the urge to start up again. I’ve lost, binned, sold all my NV equipment and builds so starting again from scratch. I’m sure things have moved on in the last 6 years. As I stopped Photons were all the rage as well as homemade scopes.
I’m not sure if I should go back down the Photon route or get an a near eye add on. I do not want an add on with a large screen.
I’d appreciate some ideas or recommendations.

You're correct, things have moved on!!
Home builds have all but died off because commercially available kit became better and the prices became affordable for most people
For a rear add-on just buy a PARD 007 new for £332 - nothing else comes close in terms of "bang for your buck"
If you want a dedicated NV then the best choices are the PARD NV008 or Sightmark Wraith.
These are true day/night scopes with full HD colour images in daytime and black and white at night in NV mode. The PARD also has an extremely powefull IR illuminator built in so no need for an external illuminator unless you want to shoot beyond about 150m yard.
Onboard recording and wifi are also now standard
The Photon went through a few revisions but was discontinued last year so there are always a few kicking around on the used market.
However, the fact that it's pretty useless in daylight means its not particularly popular.
