hi all

Post by Toytown » 22 Mar 2013, 20:44

hi guys im a shooter and resently started using night vision, home made night vision to be exact made by my own fair hands :D it works really well but my main problem is illumination. Icurrently use a 12V 40 LED board that is spot on for close range ratting around outbuildings and modified halogen torch with filter for 20-30 yard work on rabbits but i nee MORE POWER

i am starting a new project involving a green laser and the eye piece from an old scope to open the beam to around 5 feet at 100 yards

:?: my starter question is :?:

how do i convert a green rifle laser to IR, i know i need to remove the green crystal but then im confused by other guides coz they say there are 2 lenses converting to around 1100nm ad then to around 550nm but i need aroud 810nm

also they all go on about the beam being dangerous and it will blind you if you get a reflection off something so how can this be made safe for NV use and is it possible.

or can anyone point me to a thread that can guide through making my own IR laser designator cheaply

cheers all

Hello Toytown and welcome to the forum.

After reading your post, I can't help but think that you're better off starting afresh and converting a flashlight to an ir led, as opposed to a laser.

Lots of conversions for you to read about on here. Decide on what range you require and you're build can be based around that.

cheers but ir dropins are useless at the ranges im after, a 1w cree 501 gives about 10 yards range (eye shine at 20), 12v 34 LED board gives about 30 yards indoors and 15 outdoors (eye shine 25) and a 1million candle 12" halogen lamp with 808nm filter gives about yards but there is allot of wasted IR.

im after 20/30 foot spread at 100 yards+

Get a Markylight from made by Sika Stag on this forum, or if you've got really deep pockets, buy a Bosch Aegis UFLED with a 10 degree beam.

Not a fan of the ir drop-ins either. I was more thinking of the T20 conversion that the lads have come up with (unsure, but I think Adam found it).

See the sunny-d-light thread in the illumination section.
