Iv got a DIY home build night vision add on which I was given by my brother. My dad is looking for the same kit so iv tried to find the components to build him one. I can't seem to find the same camera as mine though. Iv scoured the net and the only e700s iv found are silly money from the states. Sure 24 don't seem to have them anymore and instead have the v700 is this the same camera or are the e700 still available from sure or anywhere else thanks.

Manufacture of the E700 camera stopped a while ago because the Sony ccd sensor chips stopped being made in 2015
If you find one it will either be used, or if new, it will be expensive.
Many forum members have been searching for a suitable replacement but so far, none has been found

I've understood that A700 is the same camera but more features (that are not required in NV builds) and higher price. This seems to be the only one left at Sure24:

I seem to remember some time in 2015, Sure 24 sending me an A700 to test and compare against the E700.
I found that the A700 was not nearly as good as the E700 for NV work
The A700 uses a different effio chipset, and a different sensor chip.
The A700 uses the Sony SuperHAD sensor, while the E700 uses the Sony EXview HAD sensor
The EXview HAD sensor is the one with improved IR response, which is why it was a better camera for NV than the A700.

With such heavy endorsements of Pard rigs and having proved themselves umpteen NV shooters will have opted to try them, some will have been impressed at their little extras and convenience, particularly if their previous own or budget build was a bit naff or make-do with sillycon tube adaptors and fragile screen mounts etc as a first time venture.
Some of those rigs will be still laying about in cupboards, drawers or a shelf in a man-shed. There's a fair chance someone on here will sell it or strip an E700 out of an early build if he can get a decent price considering how rare they have become. You'd be surprised about how some rare items have risen in value to above their original price after a period of unavailability.
It's certainly worth raising a WANTED E700 post in the sales/wanted section and perhaps indicate you'd be willing to pay good money for one. They were definitely the 'go to' camera that didn't need pretending about.
Failing that there will be a few Watec cameras about too.
