Argocat anyone ??

Post by rodp » 05 Mar 2013, 20:21

Just a heads up that if anyone knows to an oldish 8x8 Argocat for sale let me know please. Budget for this toy around a £1000 (ish) max as no doubt it will need work and parts. Or I could be tempted to swap both my Honda quad and the one I have for spares for an Argo.

Thanks

I've been looking on and off for a while now George, at prices from a few hundred to a few grand. I've also spoken to a few sellers and come to the conclusion that they're all going to need work. The one's in the hundreds will tell you "it starts and stops great mate and it seems OK" but they haven't actually checked anything. The one's in the thousands will tell you "it starts and stops great mate and it seems OK" but they also haven't actually checked anything.
You can bet your bottom dollar it will need bearings and possibly chains, it's just that the cheaper one may need more of them.

I'll stick at around a grand, whip the top of the tub off and rebuild as nec, probably go the whole hog and turn up some of the new UHMW bearing / bushes. Besides, I like messing

This chap, in Newcastle, just tried to sell three aatv's on the bay, one of which is an 8x8 Argo. They didn't sell and he said he wants about 3k for the Argo (he'll come down)

Give him a pm and see what he says.

Seen that listing, Rod, and of the three, only the Argo is of interest to me, so figured £2.5k each.

Looks a bit ropey for that kind of dosh, though I know they fetch good money.

To be honest, I keep on looking at quads, argo's and the like and then I put myself off buying one as I'm really concerned about it being robbed. Don't have the space at home and our quad was robbed from the shoot. How do make something secure enough against liquid nitrogen and a lump hammer, 'cos that's what they used last time. Scumbags!

Thought he might, don't know if I'm famous or infamous

Looks like we may be doing the Ark on the Black Country museum again this year, that is one big mother of a tilt as it's a bottom / outer tilt with an overlapping one on top. He always stipulates three sews to every seam, without fail  Also got two hoopla's and an all over winter tilt for the cakewalk on there
Think I'll just buy a new Argocat and sod second hand

Difficult George, difficult. Mine is (quad) kept locked up and trailered and so will the Argo be. They usually use a cordless angle grinder now with those thin cutting discs. We supply grade 80 lifting chain at work and they'll even go through that in a short time (minutes)

About that one being ropey, I've not seen one yet that I would put faith in the seller telling the truth. I shall buy with a view to rebuilding and anything I don't have to repair will be a bonus  There's one due to go shortly that I may run to a few hundred on, it looks rough but will be rebuildable and there's one that will need the engine replacing. Both are worth a look.

I'll leave the ones needing work to you then, Rod. I'll keep looking at good runner, though whether I actually risk buying one is another thing.

Was thinking I'd part with the Disco shooting truck and tow the Argo on a trailer with the Hilux. Argo would be an asset for the shoot and superb for getting to the feeders when the ground is too wet for the truck. Gotta keep those 2,000 birds fed.

Already got in my mind what I would fit to it for the foxing, too.

I keep getting the urge to have a Snow-Trac, but then remember the horrendous maintenance required to keep them running on muck.
Just another fad of mine that will hopefully pass, would love a quad but knowing my luck I'd buy a duffer.
