Right chaps, if you wanted to stick two pieces of alloy together so they stick like a sticky thing in a sticky competition, permanently, what's the adhesive to use ? Epoxy and abrade the alloy with 1000 grit then a methanol wipe?

Yes I do have a tig and no this cannot be tigged ............................before some smart a**e says weld it

Bare alloy doesn't bond very well apparently but JB weld is probably about as good as you'll get for very freshly well abraded surfaces. Anodised surfaces should bond better.

Not anodised and they cannot be now I'll look into JB Weld thanks.

I dont know if this would be any good for alloy but i have used it on various other metals etc and it works well.

Right chaps, thanks for the info and offers of various adhesives. Been advised that probably JB Weld (as said on here) and Devcon are the best to try, Devcon possibly being the first to try. If it works the finished item should be on here eventually, if it falls apart I'll hide it under the bench and pretend it never existed

are you able to add a mechanical fixing of some sort?....even drilled and pinned can make glue'ing significantly stronger

No not really, I'll abrade it with 1000 / 2000 grit and give it a methanol wipe. Painting afterwards may increase it's life span by inhibiting the onset of any oxidising that could eventually creep under and break the bond.

I was going to tell him to use a screw and nut as well.
