Ha ha, so the powers that be want no more internal combustion powered vehicles after 2040 !! Fat chance of that. As it stands you can do a quick charge of 30 minutes, but it's not fully charged and it nails the batteries if used too frequently. It seems 8 hours is the required charging time at the moment and they reckon there's no viable alternative battery on the horizon.
So, filling station will have to have literally dozens of charging points and facilities for drivers / passengers to wait for several hours. It's also said that we will need a further seven power stations to provide the necessary leccy, who's sponsoring that ?
Don't think our little arab friends will be too worried about this, not for the forseeable future.

What about rental batteries like with calor gas bottles
You pay a four grand non-refundable deposite, then every twelve miles you pull into a filling station and a spotty erbet on a rollatruck puts you a fresh battery in (£10 handling charge)

No NEW petrol or diesel vehicles to be sold after 2040.
I reckon there will be an absolute sh*tload of new petrol and diesel vehicles sold on 31 December 2039
Cheers

Yep, and twenty miles up the motorway you find out they've ripped you off with knackered batteries

Without a doubt.
And all the back street factories that used to make spurious panels and parts years ago will spring up again. Back to the days of 20 and 30 year old motors trunddling around.
Mind you, I never left that era, still got the D1 that's 21 and we have a 1968 2A
Never mind anyway, it ain't gonna happen, never in a month of Sundays

I doubt I'll be still driving by then so not much bothered - given I generally use cars that are at least 10 years old anyway.

I have a Singer Le Mans 1936 still runs like a sewing machine and a 1960 Alfaromeo guileitta spider. Both roadworthy, mind you when you start the Singer in the garage and inhale those lovely fumes you can see why they want electric.
