Right gents, the mid 90's Husky says 40:1 mix, the oil label says 50:1 mix. Which one to go with and why?
I know what I'm going with, and why, just wondered what sort of answers it would get.

It'll run happily on either, go with the 50, it'll cost less in the long run

50:1....husky are just trying to be different

All my 2t gets mixed 50:1 anything that wants different can like it or lump it mate

always used 50;1 in all our Husky's and never had any probs

Oh it will be 50:1 definitely. It's the oil company that set the mix, not the chainsaw maker. Old saw, new oil.

When I were nowt but lad everything were 25:1. And cardboard box in't middle of road were luxury.

Even today husky reccomend 50:1 40:1 or 33:1 depending on what country the manual was written for

Probably do, it will depend on what oil is available with regard to the environment. We're lucky in the fact we get top quality synthetics off the shelf here without having it air shipped or travelling 200 miles for a litre of oil.

Engine oil just don't stick well enough mate. a chainsaw is basically trying to destroy itself all the time.
You need a good anti fling oil. Worse than a bike chain all that cutting generates a lot of heat

I got an oiler clogged once cutting some god awful wood that had been laying in water. The bar went blue in less than a minute

Rod the only point I would add is that "a lot of Husky pistons for the older saws are no longer available from Husqvarna as a OEM parts" some of the closed port pistons are rarer than hens teeth a unmarked used 242xp piston for example will command very good money second hand, the closed port 254xp is another model that is getting harder to find in good order. I run a slightly stronger mix "just because I feel a bit more lubrication protects the fore and aft of the piston's skirts" I mix litre bottles at 40'ish to 45'ish to one part as I find it is easier to refill the saw from smaller containers.
Find yourself a 242xp "it will put a smile on your face every time you blip the throttle" 14,000 plus revs out of the wood and howls like a very angry woman with the muffler opened up.
I know that the following is very sad "makes me happy to do a complete strip down and a compressed air clean out and de-gunge on some of the older Husqvarnas"
Her indoors says it's not normal to have an attachment to Husqvarna chainsaws, I keep telling her it's not normal to have dozens of shoes and handbags.
