Not sure where to ask, but I think you guys are a knowledgeable bunch of blokes so someone here might know.

Last year my uncle died and left a cabinet full of rifles and shotguns, his son asked me to take control of the shotguns and he put the rifles into storage.

When he handed them over I noticed that the stock on one of them (the Ugartechea side by side) felt slightly tacky/sticky. They have been in the cabinet for a few months, over the weekend I took everything out to rearrange and noticed that the silicone gun sock which I had put over this SBS was stuck to the wooden stock. I managed to pull it off but its left some of the fibers behind, and the stock still feels sticky.

I don't really know what to do for the best? These aren't no purdey's, but I would like to know what I can do at home to sort it

Anyone seen this before? Know what the issue is? How to fix?

Try a small sample area with lemon juice or white vinegar, also depending on the original finish on the stock of the SBS that has had the silicone sock stuck on to it, you could also try small amounts of WD 40 on the tip of your finger. BE CAREFUL WD 40 WILL DISOLVE THE GLUE ON MOST STICKY LABLES "BUT IF YOU TRY A HIDDEN TRIAL AREA FIRST AND THERE IS NO ADVERSE EFFECTS TO THE ORIGINL STOCK FINISH" WD 40 CAN REMOVE GLUEY STICKY RESIDUE. WORK FAST AND DON'T ALLOW ANY CLEANING SUBSTANCES TO REMAIN ON THE STOCK FINISH, WASH OF WITH DAMP RAG etc. ALSO rubbing alcohol. ... "BUT TRY A SMALL AREA FIRST"
Vinegar should soften the silicone if the silicone has dried ?
