Hi guys looking for suggestions on 4x4 vehicles with large sunroof so I can stand in vehicle & shoot. I would be removing rear seats entirely.
What are you using out three & what is for sale if any? Thanks

Truly the best I've had is a Nissan Xtrail. The sun roof opens right up, I had major success parking up at dominating position and setting my rifle up on the top, I'd use the window down and spot from there. Then when I saw something I'd stand up shoot from a stable position.
And the xtrail is actually very good off road.

Yes the last two 4x4's ive had have have been xtrails, first one a 112bhp which did up to 45mpg on a steady run, the second a 136bhp, this only does 37mpg, over a 60 lite tank full there can be 100 mile difference.
As already said it has a large sun roof that allows some one to drive and lamp while mate directly behind him can shoot out of the sun roof, driver position's the vehicle at 10- 5 passed this allows the shooter to get on the quarry with his r/h elbow down and bipod rested at the front of the roof.
General grabber at tyres can be had in 16" and 17", i just have one pair on the rear and its very good.
Ground clearance can be a bit iffy, and ive just fitted a steel sump guard, as i has caught the sump a few time's.

I was half-thinking about an X Trail when looking to replace my old 3 door Grand Vit..I bought another 3 door GV. But since the council have brought in parking tax on my road

I've thought about changing the GV and my 2001 Astra Hatch for a single 4x4 with decent mpg and the X Trail fits that bill.
What's held me back so far is the practicality of shooting out of the sun roof.... I've shot a lot of foxes standing on the back of the GV and shooting off the roof.....and there isn't a great choice of 4x4's with side-hinged doors and a decent bumper around...the only other one I can think of off the top of my head is a web Shogun?
Soooooo.... can an X Trail owner tell me if theres room to get a seat or stool in there to sit on and still be able to shoot 360 degrees out of the sun roof?

If it does...that would lead me to the next obvious question.......which is the best X Trail...and at what sort of mileage does it start to get expensive service-wise? Models to avoid?
Cheers

I'm a stand on the back bumper and shoot off the roof man the same as Fizz except I have a SWB Terrano.
It does restrict your firing arc a bit, about 30 degrees to the right of centre and 60-ish to the left, even then that's verging on being uncomfortable which opens up room for error.
Those of you that do shoot from a sun roof, How do you support yourselves with there being little or no roof around you ?
Might be you're all freehand experts and don't need a rest but think I would be happier with something rigged up like a wide, partially boarded roof rack, obviously with a hole in the middle.
The Terrano is good off road with some decent tyres fitted, low box up to 3rd gear with no need to touch the accelerator which is handy as I drive around sitting partially sideways in the seat with the door open and a bean bag wedged between door and pillar for a rifle rest, a thirsty thing though and getting on a bit now
