Discovery TD 5 ABS light is staying on ?

Post by hairyyoda » 03 Jul 2016, 22:17

Hello all.
Just testing the water to see if there might be anyone who could reset the ABS light on a TD 5 for a good friend who lives in the Bagendon area north of Cirencester "in exchange for a invite for a Roe stalk or some fox/cub or some vermin shooting around the south Cotswolds area"
Might suit someone who has TD 5 fault code knowledge and a compatible code reset/reader who would like some quality shooting invites in return. So just posting to see if there is any interest etc. Bartering is the new currency
Thank you all Phil.

"Update"
Could barter a few ton of 10 foot lengths of logs for firewood if that might be a better option for someone ?

Yoda, it's why there called Disco's because there lights flashing everywhere  What year is it? i seem to remember they had trouble with the control unit around 1998/99 models easy enough to reset light would stay out for a couple of weeks then on it come again, or it might just be a wheel speed sensor does it do a lot of off road work?

i have the tooling for the job , but your too far for me. i'm sure you must have a local tech with a Snap solus that covers the Slabs unit so should be able to give you a clue.

Wheel sensor or front wheel bearing, odds on. Should have bought a 300

I agree. wheel sensor unit on the hub - mud on it - or damage to the cabling for the sensor. Some cars will reset the ECU if the battery is disconnected for a good while.

Now now Bruce, you know you'd love one but your better half won't let you have one  She says if you're a good boy you can have a poster of one on the bedroom wall

Thank you all
Seems a very common fault with the Discovery and Defender and some Range Rovers ? found this thread which has been followed by dozens of 4 X 4 forum members. One thread even recommended a few hard braking sessions on grass or loose gravel in order to lock up all four wheels that might reset the ABS dash light ? Starting point would have to be a inspection of all four ABS rotors and sensors and wiring/connection plugs and look for any end float affecting the rotor/sensor gap etc
Easy to see that the below ABS modification would remedy a temperamental ABS dash light issue ? after a 100% brake safety inspection/repair has been carried out etc. >>>

Thanks all Phil.

They are riddled with common faults horrible things, I just done my Bosse's one a Discovery 4
Failed the mot on the rear brake pipes 59 plate had I look at it what a horrible job, spoke to Landrover dealer to see if I could get warranty and they quoted me 20'hours labour because you need to take the Body off the chassis, what load of pants.

I ended up doing it myself with some proper brake pipe this time.

I look after an old Ford ranger 1999 model and the brake pipes are still like new.

When they finished building the Tdi 300 they stopped building Land rovers

There only a Tata now.

I might even like them less than Phoenix does

Thank you Kev.
There is going to come a time "SOON'ish" that a normal joe public mechanic will not be able to undertake any maintenance/repairs unless the are armed with diagnostic kit that will cost more than the vehicles value
Thanks again Phil.
