Hi all.

I'm new to this site and new to the world of NV.

A little about myself. My main activity is deer stalking, quickly followed by lamping foxes.
One of the farms I manage foxes on has 6000 free range chickens, so the pressure is on to keep the foxes under control. On the rare occasion when I have a problem fox I need every tool at my disposal and hopefully that will so include a NV system of some discription. So I'm looking to this site for advice.

You better be quick deciding what chrismas nv present you'll be indulging in, it's nearly here!

First off you need to decide what type of nv device your looking for and what budget you could justify. Can you afford to tie a gun up and go for a dedicated nv scope on one rifle? Another option is an nv add on which allows you to spot and then add it to the back of your dayscope for the shot but this obviously extends the length of the scope which some find difficult to use and can also take too much time. You then you need to decide whether you want Digital or tubed nv.

I do a fair bit of targeting specific problem foxes and in my opinion for those a decent TUBED dedicated is the way to go. Other's love and recommend add on's and digital but for me the ability to shoot with NO IR illumination is a big bonus with problem foxes. You will be limited by range with a dedicated because of the low magnification but when you know where the fox is you're after you don't usually need to take them at long range.
I also use an add on and enjoy shooting with that but if I could only have one it would be a dedicated scope although I wouldn't want to be without my spotter either.

I think the best option for myself is an add on such as the ns200 or some DIY kit that some people are posting on this site. I feel a project coming on for the New Year.

Tubed all the way. Pah! I say to those digital fiends. Mind you I will be interested to see why the new front mounted unit performs.
