Hey foreign guys...Yankee question
What is the UK English proper way to do the following;
Write the number "two thousand" in numbers..
Is 2000 correct?
is 2,000 correct?
is 2.000 correct?
How do y'all write down the date?
Today is February 21, 2016
Do you write that as 2/21/2016, or 21/2/2016?
If you have three tea cups in front of you, two of the cups are filled to the edge. The third is filled half way.
Do you have 2.5 cups of tea?
Do you have 2 1/2 cups of tea?
If you were to say it? Do you have "two and a half cups of tea", or do you have "two and one half cups of tea"?

OZ English:
2000 or 2,000 will do. 2,000 was the norm until computers and OCR that didn't like commas.
21/2/16
Some one stole my beer and swapped it for two and a half cups of tea.
Note, there are regional variations, but not as bad as in England where some people still communicate in whistles and grunts.

Who in Europe writes two thousand as 2.000?
Re: Hey foreign guys...Yankee question
Nobody as far as I know, but it's common in Europe to use a comma for a decimal pointFrogman Ladue wrote:Who in Europe writes two thousand as 2.000?
In UK (and most of the english speaking world) 2 1/2 as a decimal would be 2.5
In many European countries it would be written as 2,5

Don't the Germans do something different with commas and decimal points?phoenix wrote:Nobody as far as I know, but it's common in Europe to use a comma for a decimal pointFrogman Ladue wrote:Who in Europe writes two thousand as 2.000?

If you compare the current buying power of the pound vs the old pound sterling, then 2,000 pounds should be stated as 2.000 pounds.
