ideas for a little jap 4x4 for off roader project

Post by sunndog » 13 Feb 2016, 16:56

Right chaps

We've decided to get a little jap 4x4 and make a utv/pick up/shooting truck out of it
I'm more than a little out of touch with non landy 4x4's and suzi SJ's are getting a bit long in the tooth now
So what should i be looking at? Needs as few electronics as possible and be cut and shut friendly

Cheers......adam

A correct grip on the butt & cheekweld is imperative for accurate shooting.

The little SJ will take some beating Adam, don't know what the Jimny is like but I know the Vitara is rubbish off road (proper off road).

Kap seem to have come on a bit now, they turned some right junk out to start with (years ago). Their stuff doesn't look half bad now though

Anyone remember "Rhino Ray" and his engine conversions? Used to put cast iron lumps in the SJ's out of Vauxhalls and Opels. They were like homing pigeons, heading straight for the bottom on every camber

Aaah bless... the SJ's... fond memories of those little darlings... pee'd it past LR's et al stuck in the mud on just legal multi-terrain tyres.

I run a swb Grandvit..... not as good as the SJ's off-road as you say as the ground clearance lets it down but being sensible I've yet to get properly stuck....and they're good for standing on the back of and shooting off the roof.... I've had a lot of foxes like that in the last year or so... mobile high seat it is. The big version of the Toolstation step up platform is the same height las the bumper and one of the narrow ones round the lh side is an easy step across to shoot out to the right (well, better than standing on the rear wheel anyway)

But then... some would call me a short-arse at 5'6"' :lolno:

Hi Adam,

When the NV is a bit quieter in the summer, I have the daft idea of converting a Suzuki Carry 4x4 flat bed to electric and putting it on big floatation tyres.

Cheers

With the weight of the batteries you're gonna need some big tyres
