Just starting out !
Just starting out !
Hi, based in North Yorkshire. Lamped plenty over the years and just getting a taste for some night vision gear and giving the Clulites a rest.
Bought a Yukon XT 6.5 X 50 and put it on a CZ .22 and have been impressed with the results, also got a Pulsar HD 38S linked up to a 7" moniter on the Landy dashboard . Found that really good.
My big question, What to mount on a Tikka .243 just for foxes at night out to 150m max although most will be sub 100m in reality. I have a Sako .243/Meopta for daytime.
Any suggestions are very welcome. I don't want to break the bank but don't mind paying for a decent outfit.
Thanks.

Hi Paddlers, welcome to the forum.
It's a refreshing change to hear a foxer concede so much of his actual rather than imagined shooting is sub 200 yards.

Cheers 'Some bloke'. I've never seen much point in long shots when you can be 100 % with a bit of effort.
The only reason I've found for quarry being difficult on a night is when they've been "educated" and we all know how that happens. I've tried a couple of night vision devices just lately and have not been that impressed.
There must be something that ticks the boxes for me. 100% accurate and reliable with a magnification of around 6-8 .
I was thinking another Yukon XT 6.5 with a doubler and better torch but evidently it invalidates the warranty ! Cheap as well.
There's so much out there it gets very confusing !!

Re: Just starting out !
For foxes at that range, a standard Yukon XT 6.5 without a doubler will do just fine.
A Blacksun T20 will provide plenty of illumination at those ranges - the XT's in built illuminator is basically crap.

Re: Just starting out !
Thanks Bruce. I suspected as much but the weather's been so shite just lately I've had to content myself with waving the .22 with the Yukon on around the fields next to my house but it's been foggy too which makes anything a bit of a lottery.
Actually bought a Black Sun from the site at the top of the forum but haven't powered it all up yet.
Shot 25 rabbits one night before Christmas but the standard illuminator seemed ok at up to 50m but as you say not to good beyond. What's the best mount to attach it to the scope as it's a lot bigger than I imagined & heavier ?
Thanks, Tony.

Re: Just starting out !
A 1" high profile weaver mount like these will make sure the head of the T20 doesn't touch the objective of the scope

Re: Just starting out !
Thanks Bruce, just ordered a set. I'm assuming that no adjustment is needed at these sort of ranges and that the torch will be roughly pointing in the right direction?
Typically thought I had some high mounts in my man cave among the assorted scopes etc built up over the years but nothing in 30mm !
Had a look at a gate that's a 100m down my field and it was very clear with the extra illumination.
Thanks for your help & advice, I'll get another XT ordered tomorrow. Certainly an inexpensive way to get into the nightvision scene.

Re: Just starting out !
Keep in mind the current 6.5x XT will not accept the Yukon doubler lens. If you want to upgrade with a doubler or Extreme lens adapter you will need a 4.6x.
Re: Just starting out !
The blacksun T20 tube diameter is 25mm not 30mm - so you'll need a 25mm scope ring.

Re: Just starting out !
I got the Black Sun B671 which appears to have a 30 mm tube. Should I send it back and get the T2 instead ? Is there any difference in performance ?
I'd be happy with the 4.6 with a doubler. Does the Yukon doubler fit straight on with no mods ? I did see on another thread that these things are now glued in. Is the modern 4.6 designed to take the adapter and not glued in?
Sorry to appear a bit thick fellas but I've had a right mare with this nightvision gear just lately and if possible want to avoid any cock-ups !
