Are there any dramatic improvements in aa rechargeables at the moment?

Need a bunch of aa's for my guide thermal and foxpro. Currently on Duracell duralock and the annsman silver jobbies. I need batteries that hold their charge as quite often they don't get used for a while as I rotate a good few sets so I've always got enough in reserve.

I think it's either the eneloop or the duralocks again but has anyone got any better suggestions or could recommend a sensibly priced and reliable place to buy from?

Nothing better than Duralocks or Eneloops at the moment

That's just crackers, mine certainly hold their charge. Well, apart from the annsman but even they last a good hour and a half on empty (according to the guide) even if I don't use em for a few weeks after charging.
Got eneloops on order to try, never tried them so will see how they compare to the duralocks. If I charge the batteries before I go out then the annsman 2850's come out on top with at least 2 1/2 hours in decent conditions but the fact the duralocks actually register on the battery meter no matter how long ago they were charged is reassuring. If the eneloops are better I'll most certainly be happy..

Thinking about this what charger do you use?

I'm using an 8 charger energiser (I think) but I can only charge 4 batteries at a time. If I charge 8 it doesn't get proper contact and only charges 4 properly. You've bound to already have checked your charger but mine certainly has 'difficulties'..

I've always had battery problems and have 3 very good chargers. I do need to make a load tester and charge the batteries then see how they preform under load.
This will show me if I have some crap batteries.

Anyone out there know how to build an aa battery load tester and wanna make me one?

I did a wee bit of research on the eneloops and duralocks and it appears that they both come out of the same battery factory in Japan.
I don't think there much between them in performance but the Duralocks can usually be found cheaper than the eneloops.

With AA batteries i use one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Energizer-1hr-4 ... st+charger so you can charge them up in the car on the way, and if you get to your shoot and find your batteries flat you can charge them up in on time at all

I use an earlier version of these 7dayshop 8x AA/AAA chargers...several years old now and always been reliable...... Not the fastest kid on the block but then I don't think that's a bad thing.

Dead useful for me as my Foxpro uses an 8 pack of AA's.

I use Ansmann 2850's in that and my HD38S in which I get a good 6hours continuous.
